About Re-Set Scenery

Reset Scenery is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing the Scottish Entertainment Industry with an economical & environmentally responsible alternative to landfill for its unwanted scenery, props and furniture.

Re-Set Scenery Description

The community operates on a system of trust and as such there are a few simple rules to help promote and protect both the providers and receivers.

Customer Contract

1) All items exchanged are taken on an "as seen" basis and with the understanding that once an item is taken it is the sole responsibility of the receiver to ensure it is "fit for purpose". If you are in any way unsure do not take the item.
Bear in mind the items have already seen a production run and may only be useful for salvageable materials and not suitable for further use.

2) Any company or individual receiving items must agree to any terms outlined by the provider. As this system requires a degree of trust to be successful it is important for provider requests to be met otherwise they may stop offering items.

3) If you make an arrangement to collect something but can no longer take it let the provider know in advance. It cost's additional time (and money) for companies to dispose of unwanted items after the original date. Do turn up when agreed for the same reasons. Many of the companies here have limited space for storage and will be doing the receiver a great favour by holding items for collection dates after the disposal window.

We used 2nd Hand Scenery at Birds of Paradise Theatre and they were really great. Came along to our storage unit on day that suited both of us and helped load all our unwanted bits of set, flooring etc. Really glad that it is now available to be reused by other companies rather than going to waste. I would very much recommend their service. :) :) :) :) :)

We recently used 2nd Hand Scenery for a production of ‘ Julius Caesar' at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Using MDF tiles that previously had been textured, we then attached these on to larger sheets of MDF (which were also scrap from old shows) and because it already had a strong base colour for what we were looking for, it meant we also saved money on paint. The whole process from the transport and storage of the tiles and the build itself was made so simple and easy with the amazing help from Simon and Matt of 2nd Hand Scenery. It saved us a lot of time/labour/money - it was such a huge help to us on a low budget show. Highly recommend!

The Glasgow Tool Library have been generously donated materials on several occasions by 2nd Hand Scenery.

Together, our organisations are championing the re-distribution of materials and tools, creating an active approach to circular distribution in the creative industries in Glasgow. And - they're top folk!

Thanks to Simon Cotrell and all at 2nd Hand Scenery for the fabulous touring set from 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'. It's fantastic that scenery and props can be re-cycled and have a new life. The staff and students of GAMTA are very grateful for this wonderful set.

User

Thanks a million to 2nd Hand Scenery for providing us with building blocks for a recent exhibition - you guys are amazing! The set was in great shape and collection couldn't be easier. It's such a great idea to recycle old scenery and let other people use it to make their ideas a reality. I'd encourage anyone to get in touch and support 2nd Hand Scenery. Best of luck in the future, can't wait to see this really take off!!

User

Thank you so much to Matt and Simon for letting us hire our Jeff the lovely Knight in shining armour! He looked amazing at our show and all the kids loved him! Such a great service!!

User

Thank you so much for the fantastic help from Matt and Simon at Second Hand Scenery. We were able to utilise a number of pre-used flats that we were able to clean up, paint and convert them into a skyline of Edinburgh. We also used the raw materials from a couple of the flats and recycled them into a large chimney. This would have all been impossible to achieve without the help from this fantastic company. The cost and time to create all these flats would have meant the project would have been impossible for us to achieve without the help.

User

Such a great idea . . . Really easy and helpful to find the bits and pieces I needed, will definitely use again - thanks!

User

User

I'm so so chuffed with the scenery I've come away with for my secondary school after a visit to you today. The flats look amazing and you also gave me really helpful advice about safely setting them up. This would have cost our school a lot of money to buy or hire (read: we'd have never been able to afford it in our budget) and you've really done us a good turn. Thank you so much Simon and Matt and all the students who made the scenery we've nabbed

User

Could not be any more helpful, I'm so glad we found you on fb and even more delighted that the props collected were indeed of an extremely high standard...

User

Brilliant resource! Posted some bits and pieces recently and got a massive response. Great to see things getting reused instead of in a skip. Top work guys!
