Renfrewshire Astronomical Society

The Renfrewshire Astronomical Society meets in the Paisley Museum Secret Collection 9 High Street paisley on a Friday evening from 19: 00

We are a friendly group of people with a common interest in stars, planets, galaxies, comets, nebula and other things in the night sky. Most of all we like sharing our knowledge with fellow amateur astronomers and learning about the latest astronomy news. Skill levels vary from absolute beginners to seasoned amateurs. Everyone is encouraged to come along to our informal gatherings.

Our meetings are most Fridays nights between the months of September to May inclusive, and we meet in the main hall in the Paisley Museum and Art Galleries from 7: 30pm till 9: 30pm. Come into the hall via the side entrance from the museum car park. You don’t need an invite.

Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to come along. You can try us out for a number of weeks without joining, but if you do decide to join (and we hope you do! ) then membership is presently £15 for a year. You are more than welcome to bring younger members along with you, but we must insist that they are in your supervision at all times.

We also try to have an astronomy related talk by a prominent invited speaker once a month (generally the last Friday of the month). These talks have proved to be extremely interesting and educational and are open to the public. . . . so please drop in even if you are not a member. We will try to publicise upcoming talks on these pages, so please check them from time to time.

We have members who are actively involved with astrophotography, spectroscopy, astrometry, photometry, and many other areas of astronomy. We also have a selection of pieces of astronomical equipment for use by members, so if you are thinking of getting into astronomy or purchasing a telescope, feel free to come and have a chat with us.

Finally, we go on several group outings per year such as the Kielder Forest Star Camp.
