At 1315 hours on Tuesday 6th November 2018 Helensburgh RNLI lifeboat was launched after a report was received of a person in the water at the James Watt Dock, Port Glasgow. When the boat arrived at the dock however the lifeboat crew was advised that this was a hoax call which had been made from Helensburgh. The lifeboat was back on station again at 1415 hours. Keith Shipman, Press Officer for Helensburgh RNLI Lifeboat, condemned the stupid action in making a hoax call. The lives of the volunteer crew are at risk every time the lifeboat puts to sea. Additionally, should there have been a genuine call at the same time, someone could have died as a result of the delay.

Dinghy Aground - Langbank (Sat 27th Oct at 10:40 hrs) Helensburgh Lifeboat was alerted by the Coastguard at 10:25 hrs of a sailing dinghy apparently in distress near Dumbarton Rock. The Lifeboat launched at 10:40 hrs and went directly to the area where the crew found a sailing dinghy aground on a sandbank opposite Langbank. There were no persons with the dinghy and it did not have a mast. It appeared to have come adrift from its mooring. The Lifeboat crew took the dinghy in tow and deposited it safely at the James Watt Dock before returning to station and reporting ready for service again at 12:15 hrs.
