Your pager has just gone off. It’s blowing a gale and you’re told your looking for a swimmer....this is what faced the volunteers at Penlee Lifeboat lifeboat yesterday afternoon. Watch this fantastic bit of boat handling, consider searching in these conditions and the great teamwork on board the lifeboat.
The swimmer was safely returned to the shore, where we’re told the Coastguard offered some water safety advice.

We hope that you never find yourself in the same position as Joseph did, but despite everything that was going on he was able to record what was going on when we were called to help him on a recent shout. Thanks for sharing the video Joseph and great to hear you got safely home in the end.

2 of a kind. For the Last 15 years, Gary Friedman (R) has been our Lifeboat Operations Manager. Authorising and overseeing lifeboat launches, helping recruit volunteers, being the point of contact for anyone coming to visit the lifeboat station are just a few of the tasks he has done.
But the time has come that he is stepping aside and Stan Macrae (L) who has been a volunteer crewman for over 20 years has taken over the role.
We're going to have a more formal handover with f...ull details of Gary's remarkable voluntary service to the station in the New Year. We're not seeing the back of him though, he's going to remain as a Deputy Launch Authority.
Speaking of Gary's time at the helm of the station, our Station chairman, Alan McDiarmid said 'On the occasion of his stepping aside from his role as LOM, a few words for Gary Friedman. 15 years in the role have been eventful and challenging in many ways but I can still remember the breath of fresh air that came with his appointment. Gary has been a decisive and dynamic operations manager of the Station. He has brought us from D class days through the revolution of the Atlantic 75 and onwards with our Atlantic 85. He has always met challenges head on and brought strength and enthusiasm to management of the station and a clear testament to this is the healthy crew numbers at Kessock. Gary has always taken us forward together as fine leader of people and he will be a very hard act to follow.'
Gary - from the whole crew, past and present, thank you!

Don't forget we're at Inshes Aldi Scotland all this week collecting. We've had a great week so far and you've been very generous, we'll bring you a total at the end of the week, but do come and say hello to us if you are there.

Last week some of us spent an extra few evenings at the station re-validating our Casualty Care skills. It’s an on going course with regular weekly training scenarios, so that when the time comes and we need to use these skills for real we’re perfectly comfortable putting them into action

Congratulations to 2 of our probationary, now passed out volunteer crew. Jane Heir (L) and James Lynch (R) have both recently completed all their training and following a series of assessment sessions afloat have both passed all their training modules to become full time crew.

You might remember earlier this year we told you about Joanne Shepherd, daughter of one of our crew Hayley. Joanne was running her first Loch Ness Marathon to raise money for us. 4hr 3mins after starting she crossed the finishing line and raised £600 for us in doing so. She dropped by the other week to drop the money off, pictured here with Hayley and Lifeboat Operations Manager Gary. Thank you very much Joanne!!

We know we haven’t bought many updates about what's been happening at the station over the past few weeks - sorry. But stand by, here we go. Over the next few posts we'll tell you about some donations we've received, probationary crew passing out, a major change in the top management at the station and an update on our week long fundraising at Aldi UK this week.

All this week we’ve been fortunate enough to be offered to fundraise in the Inshes branch of Aldi. So from 10am to 6pm tomorrow till Saturday we’ll be there. Please come and support us and thank you Aldi for having us.

A great evening showing Inverness Coastguard team around our lifeboat this evening and talking how we can all work together more in the future. #trainonesavemany #savinglivesatsea
