The Lochinver lifeboat crew were paged at 1645 this afternoon. The coastguard received a DSC message from a vessel and became concerned when they could not contact them by VHF radio. The Lochinver lifeboat departed a short time later making best speed in rough seas towards the search area along with Portree lifeboat and the CG helicopter from Stornoway. The initial search area was around Loch Gairloch. Luckily the owner of the boat was tracked down and found to be safe an...d well, the lifeboat was then stood down and headed back to Lochinver. The lifeboat was refuelled and ready for service again by 1830.

Lochinver lifeboat crew were paged this evening at 1722. Lochinver Harbour contacted the coxswain of the lifeboat after the port hand navigation buoy from the entrance of the harbour was spotted drifting. The lifeboat launched a short time later and quickly located the buoy before it went ashore. It was then towed back into the harbour where it won’t cause any danger to navigation. The lifeboat was back alongside and ready for service at 1830.

The Lochinver Lifeboat crew were paged at 1700 this afternoon after concerns were raised about a small inflatable that had left the harbour earlier in the day. Members of the public had noticed the small inflatable with one person on board leaving in a freshening South Easterly breeze. A few hours later when the boat had not returned the Coast Guard were contacted. The Lifeboat proceeded North and after a short time spotted the inflatable. Contact was made with the person on board and it was confirmed that they did not require assistance. Although they did not require assistance the Lifeboat escorted the inflatable back to the Harbour due to the increasing wind speed. The Lifeboat was back alongside and ready for service at 1815.

The Lochinver Lifeboat left its berth at 0700 this morning heading for Stornoway to get her hull washed and a fresh coat of anti-fouling. The Lifeboat is now back alongside her mooring in Lochinver, refuelled and ready for service. Here are some before and after pics.

Lochinver RNLI lifeboat was called out this morning to assist a local fishing boat which had suffered engine problems just north of Isle Ristol at the Summer Isles. The crew were paged a little after 10:30 am this morning and the lifeboat launched shortly thereafter, arriving on scene 20 minutes later. The fishing boat was taken under tow and returned safely to Lochinver. Thanks to John Templeton, crewman, for the photographs.
