Rnli Queensferry Lifeboat

About Rnli Queensferry Lifeboat

Established in 1968 in an old tickect office,
Queensferry Lifeboat has grown into Scotlands busiest inshore Lifeboat station.

Rnli Queensferry Lifeboat Description

The new RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat Station is a world away from the original Lifeboat Station opened in 1968 at the Hawes Pier and was of a wooden construction,
which was previously the ticket office for the ferries which ran between South and North Queensferry prior to the opening of The Forth Road Bridge.
In 1989 it was replaced by a specially built Station which has been home to four Lifeboats the last of which was ŌĆ£The Donald and Ethel MacraeŌĆØ.
The new Atlantic 85 Lifeboat the ŌĆ£Jimmie CairncrossŌĆØ was named by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and will be housed in the new Station complete with a new tractor.
The new Station with an impressive boat house will enable the Lifeboat to launch straight down the pier, thus saving vital minutes.
The new facilities are especially appreciated by the ladies in the shop , who have operated in all weathers exposed to the elements and now have a nice warm premises.
The crew can now enjoy good locker space, and shower facilities and boasts a welcome dedicated area for the mechanic. Upstairs there is ample office space, kitchen area and a very impressive crew lounge / training and meeting area,
featuring port hole windows and panoramic views up the Forth to Crombie and down to Inchcolm Island.

We wholeheartedly agree with our friends up at RNLI Macduff Lifeboat! DonŌĆÖt use flares for anything other than what they are intended! They are a potentially lifesaving method of raising the alarm in emergency situations at sea, not a firework. Please remember that this Bonfire night.
And of course, make sensible fashion choices no matter what the time of year ¤śé

PAGER 15:00 Queensferry Lifeboat was paged today to an object drifting in the sea off Charlestown. Once on scene a small tender was found in the area identified by the first informant. Kinghorn Coastguard were also tasked and carried out investigations ashore. Once established that the tender had been unoccupied and no persons were in danger, the Lifeboat towed the tender in to Charlestown Harbour where it was recovered to the shore by Lifeboat and Coastguard personnel.

PAGER - 19:18
Launched to a sighting of a distress flare in the Granton area. The Lifeboat performed a search from Granton to Leith, with nothing found, while South Queensferry Coastguard and Fisherrow Coastguard carried out a shorebased search. Eventually a used flare casing was found ashore and all teams were stood down.
Please remember that flares are not for fun. They are a potentially lifesaving method of signalling distress in an emergency situation on the water and sho...uld not be used in any way other than that for which they are intended.
The Lifeboat was recovered to the station around 22:00 and made ready for service again.

News Release - Forth Swim 22nd September.
On the afternoon of Saturday 22nd September RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat was tasked to assist safety boats covering a Firth of Forth Swim. The Atlantic 85 B-Class Lifeboat Jimmie Cairncross and its volunteer crew responded to the area of the north and middle cantilevers of the Forth rail Bridge, where a number of swimmers were attempting to proceed against a strong tide.
The Lifeboat had recovered one cold and exhausted swimmer who was ...struggling to progress in the challenging conditions and had chosen to exit the water when, in communication with the safety boats, a swimmer in need of urgent medical assistance was identified. The Lifeboat took this casualty onboard and requested an ambulance to respond to Hawes Pier. This casualty was slipping in and out of consciousness, very cold and thought to have swallowed water. The Lifeboat returned immediately to Hawes Pier where this casualty was handed over to the care of Paramedics and the SORT team.
While medical care was being administered the other casualty, not in need of medical assistance, was taken into the Lifeboat Station by Volunteer Crew members and warmed up. The Lifeboat returned to the scene of the event to perform a sweep of the water and help the safety boats ensure all 214 swimmers had exited the water safely.
The first casualty was reunited with her husband and was able to go home, safe and well. The second casualty was treated by the Ambulance crew and SORT team before being released to her family who had arrived and spending a short while in the Lifeboat Station warming up and having cups of tea and coffee before they too were able to go home.
The Lifeboat was stood down by UK Coastguard and returned to station where it was recovered and made ready for service once again.

We were very excited to meet Belinda and James of the RNLI 911 Challenge yesterday as their final stop of the day. The local seagulls hadnŌĆÖt been quite so welcoming so a few of our crew grabbed the opportunity to help (and to be able to say theyŌĆÖd washed a Porsche on the slipway we suspect ¤żŻ).

Queensferry Lifeboat was paged today at 16:13 after a SART (search and rescue transponder) started emitting a distress signal in the local area. After a thorough investigation by the Lifeboat and South Queensferry Coastguard between Hound Point and Granton, it was discovered that no persons or vessels were in distress and this was a false alarm with good intent.
This was RichieŌĆÖs first shout in command after passing out as a Helm earlier in the week.

User

Congratulations to Richie who successfully completed his Helm pass-out assessment today. Richie is now qualified to command the Lifeboat at sea. Well done!

User

We would like to say a huge thank you to the team at The Bikers Cove for organising such an excellent bike show, which took place today in aid of the RNLI. Thanks to everybody who attended and helped raise over ┬Ż5000. What an amazing result, thank you!

UPDATE - PAGER 15:00 - launched to assist with a medical evacuation from Inchcolm Island. The casualty had fallen and sustained injuries to their hip. The Lifeboat crew recovered the casualty onto a local tour boat - Maid of the Forth, assisted by their crew, and the casualty was transported to Hawes Pier on the tour boat accompanied by 2 members of Lifeboat Crew, while the Lifeboat escorted the vessel. At Hawes Pier Scottish Ambulance Service and South Queensferry Coastguard were waiting. The casualty was transferred from the tour boat to the care of the paramedics by our crew and the Coastguard, and taken to hospital for treatment.
