About Royal Burgh Of Culross
Relive the domestic life of the 16th and 17th centuries at this riverside Royal Burgh. The old buildings and cobbled streets create a fascinating time warp
Royal Burgh Of Culross Description
Culross offers a unique look into the past. You can wander the cobbled streets and imagine the girdles being made, the coal mining, the salt panning and the hustle and bustle of a thriving 17th-century port on the River Forth.
Explore the beautiful refurbished Palace which dates from 1597 - imagine what it would have been like to live within the splendid interiors, featuring painted woodwork, and 17th- and 18th-century furniture.
Take a Town Tour and see the Town House which was once the legal and commercial centre for the town - upstairs, the fine Georgian interior of the council chambers often houses exhibitions, whilst next door is the old courtroom. The Study is where Bishop Leighton of Dunblane reputedly composed his sermons, and can offer a stunning view of the Forth
The palace garden is full of herbs, fruit and vegetables (available to buy in season), which visitors can roam round, hopefully also meeting our dumpy hens!
Visit Bessie's Tearoom to taste yummy home made treats.

School Holidays are nearly upon us! Let’s keep the sunshine for a while and do some fun things?
Sadly, in Life, from time to time, we have to say “goodbye” to our loved ones. Today, because of an unforeseen illness, we bid goodbye to our much loved, Sweet Almond tree. Louise, our Head Gardener did a sterling job of the removal process and promises that another will be planted when the time is right. The circle of Life.
It’s that “rose-tastic” time of year at Culross Palace. 16th century hygiene may have been significantly different to ours today, but the perfume in the air is exactly the same and would have been much prized. 400 years of the same scents. Come and smell our garden, it’s simply “Heavenly” 😊❤️
Thank you to everyone who came to our “Witches of Culross” guided tour. Feedback was so positive, we will definitely be doing this again, so that we can remember the poor souls who were lost in the crazed fervour of the 17th/18th century Witch Trials. Also, look out for our “After hours....Spirits of the Palace” Tour, coming soon.
Please note! The “Witches of Culross” guided tour taking place on Saturday is SOLD OUT. We will endeavour to repeat this tour again soon. Thank you for your interest.
THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT!
