Run The Blades

About Run The Blades

Run the Blades is a unique trail running event with three distances (10K, half marathon, 50K ultra) that is held exclusively within Whitelee Windfarm.

Run The Blades Description

Run the Blades is a totally unique event held exclusively within the UK’s largest onshore wind farm, Whitelee Wind Farm. The site offers a real feel for the great outdoors, but is a convenient 20 minute drive from the bustling centre of Glasgow. Incorporating three distances – a 10K, half marathon and 50K ultramarathon – the event makes trail running accessible to runners of all fitness and experience levels.

All three of the challenging routes cross through mixed moorland and trees, passing wind turbines that tower 140 metres above the trail. Picture a futuristic forestry land… it sure is a mesmerising distraction from those burning muscles! What’s more, you could be lucky enough to spot one of the hundreds of bird species, adders or deer that live within the site boundaries. On a clear day you’ll be able to see Glasgow and even the coast of Northern Ireland in the distance. We encourage family and friends to come along for a fun filled weekend, there will be lots of excitement and tasty goods on offer at the vibrant event village. Run the Blades is fully supported by Whitelee Countryside Ranger Service and we value the support of the local Eaglesham community.

2018 DATES:

10K - FRIDAY 20TH JULY, 7: 30PM
HALF MARATHON - SATURDAY 21ST JULY, 10AM
50K ULTRA - SATURDAY 21ST JULY, 9AM

We love running, but almost equal to this is our love of food! We are therefore very excited to announce that our Run the Blades food vans this year are: Bonnie Burrito Screaming Peacock and @grinninbearcoffee
They will be at the event on both the Friday and Saturday to provide you and your supporters with an array of food options including burritos, burgers, coffee & tea 🌯🍔☕ . I don't know about you but we're drooling at the thought 🤤.
Once you have run, you can grab a bit...e to eat and drink and come and cheer the rest of the runners on.
See you all in a few weeks time.

So it turns out Run the Blades broke the internet over night! 😂We used up our monthly bandwith limit on our website in a matter of hours due to the number of you downloading the Race Packs. Normal service has resumed (with double the bandwith limit). Apologies for the inconvenience.
Cheers

Morning,
Race Packs for the three events went out this morning. If you haven't already received yours, please don't immediately email us in a panic otherwise we won't be able to move for emails. Please do the following: 1. Don't stress - due to the number of you (1600) the Race Packs have gone out in batches. They should definitely be with you by the end of today. 2. If you haven't received it by then, please check your spam and trash folders. Some email providers really don'...t like us for some reason and place our mail directly in to these. The email address is events@breakingstrain.co.uk. The majority of the time that people don't receive the email is because there has been a typo in the email address at the point of registration or an old email address has been used. 3. We'll upload links to the Race Packs as a separate post on Facebook tonight so you'll be able to access them here anyway. 4. If you're really concerned that you haven't got your Race Pack and need one emailed rather than accessing it on FB then please email us: events@breakingstrain.co.uk
Cheers
Lee

High 5! The 50K ultra at Run the Blades is now the largest it has ever been with 200 runners. We closed entries for the 50K yesterday morning as we had reached our capacity but due to demand over the past 24 hours we're adding another 10 spaces. Get in there quick before they're gone.
