Ruskin Lodge is to be found in the stunning Argyll Forest Park, nestled between Loch Eck to the north and Dunoon to the south. As part of the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, the area is rich in wildlife and has activities, facilities & sites that can be enjoyed throughout the year.
Recently refurbished to a high standard, this traditional log cabin is the perfect home-from-home for people keen to explore the area’s many natural, cultural and historic sites, as well as couples, families and friends looking for relaxing quality time.
The famous Puck’s Glen walking trails begin behind the lodges and Benmore Botanical Gardens are a short walk away along a scenic track. The lodge is one of 18 that form the quiet, privately-owned Lamont Lodges which see many visitors returning year after year. Ruskin Lodge can accommodate up to six people in 3 bedrooms, one of which can be converted into a study or writer’s room.

Check out this cute visitor to the lodge today! However many times I see a red squirrel - and there are many that hang about the lodges - I still get excited.
Spring has come early to Cowal! Snowdrops, crocuses and even some optimistic daffodils are out. We have also had a spring clean and refresh at the lodge: new pillows and duvets, lovely new bedroom wall lights, bathroom spotlights and new bedroom furniture like this hand-painted chest of drawers, featuring rather special Argyll pebble handles.
If you fancy a getaway, the lodge has availability in February and March and prices are at their lowest – short breaks (three nights ...Friday to Monday or four nights Monday to Friday) are £160 for couples / £210 for larger groups or full weeks for £275 for couples / £325 for larger groups.

Cowal is looking stunning at the moment! Just back from a lovely morning walk at Ardentinny (a short drive from the lodge) with the dog. Cold, crisp and clear, with snow on the surrounding mountains and hills.

Feeling festive after an afternoon putting up the Christmas tree! Hoping our guests like our wee robin - not very traditional but as we're surrounded by wildlife it seemed appropriate. (No actual robins were harmed in the making of this decoration...!)
A lovely winter walk starting at the lodge and going to Benmore Gardens which remain open during the winter. The light is gorgeous and one of my favourite areas of the garden - the Chilean forest and Bhutanese garden - were looking particularly pretty at the weekend.

Normally I'd be plugging the natural delights of the area, but if you fancy some culture, why not book a weekend at the lodge and binge on some quality cinema? The lodge is available in November (3rd-11th) - so get in touch if you fancy a cosy stay and some great films. Five years ago today me and my partner Colin collected the keys for Ruskin Lodge! Little did we know that it was also the first step in us moving to Cowal - we fell for the area in a big way and in 2015 made it our home. The lodge needed a lot of TLC and that first summer was spent restoring the logs and redecorating - we were coming out for holidays ourselves but started renting it out too. We think the lodge is special and it is just lovely to see other people enjoying it and the surroundings too - our guest's reviews really mean so much to us and I'm delighted that we can share this "little slice of lovely" (as one guest put it) with others. Thank you to everyone who has chosen to stay at the lodge, recommended us to friends and relations and taken the time to review us.
So excited to see Orcas this close to Dunoon (15 mins from the lodge)! There are a local pod of porpoises but whales are a rare treat.
