A great example of Push The Boat Out reaching out to the local community can be found at Lochcarron Sailing Club in the North West of Scotland. The club is welcoming the local primary school pupils from Lochcarron Primary School to a specific school sailing session on Friday this week to Try Sailing.
The club is then hosting an additional day on the 15th of May for everyone who'd like to try sailing in the area. We think a lot of the children will be keen to share their exper...ience with family and friends!

The Royal Yacht BRITANNIA is celebrating all the 'Yottie's' who served on this historic vessel this week. The Association of Royal Yachtsmen get together annually as volunteers to help maintain the vessel and share stories with the many visitors.

A quick update on an action packed start to May over the bank holiday weekend, we're not sure where to start!
We have seen some great updates form the clubs who hosted Push The Boat Out events, with some great turnouts across the country. Thanks so much to all the volunteers who introduced many to the sport in somewhat chilly conditions. ⛵
Our junior performance sailors travelled to Rutland Water at the 33rd Eric Twinname Championships with British Youth Sailing and enjoyed ...some very close racing, even bringing home some medals! 💪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
And some even managed to get out and tackle some marine litter on the remote beaches! Well done Guy Neville and Craignish Boat Club!

Scotland's Marine Protected Area (MPA) network has doubled in size over the past six years and now covers over 22% of Scotland's seas.
Scottish Natural Heritage highlights. "A total of 42 new MPAs have been designated to protect marine habitats, wildlife, geology, undersea landforms, historic shipwrecks, and to demonstrate sustainable management of the sea. Scotland's MPA network makes a significant contribution to both the European and global MPA networks and delivers on ou...r international commitments for protection of the marine environment."
Marine Protected Area Management and Monitoring (MarPAMM) is an ambitious three year marine management project that aims to trial the production of regional marine protected area (MPA) management in Argyll.
To help start the project, MarPAMM have launched a survey that aims to gather opinions about the MPAs in Argyll. To take part please visit:

A hilarious alternate look at marine wildlife disturbance from the Whale and Dolphin Conservation which is well worth sharing.
We are so lucky in Scotland to have so much marine wildlife, but remember it's #rudetointrude
Follow some of the great wildlife codes available such at The Green Blue Wildlife Guide:
... https://www.thegreenblue.org.uk/Boat-User s/Wildlife
or the Scottish National Heritage Marine Wildlife Watching Code:
https://www.nature.scot/…/scottish-mari ne-wildlife-watching…
As disturbance is just plain rude.

Many clubs are hosting BIG events as part of Push The Boat Out this year. Glencoe Boat Club is running two full days of try sailing experiences on the scenic Loch Leven on the 18th and 19th of May.
Working with other community and marine businesses the event brings together Glencoe Outdoor Centre, iPowerboat and SeaXplorer who will be joining the club over the weekend to offer free of low cost opportunities to get afloat.
Max McLean of Glencoe Boat Club said. "There are load...s of activities to get people out on the water with dinghy and keelboat sailing, kayaks and even a brand new rowing skiff being revealed. The club will also have stalls on shore and if the weather allows a BBQ!”

A massive welcome to Helensburgh Sailing Club who are joining Push The Boat Out this year with a Try Sailing event taking place on the 18th of May in Helensburgh.
The Club has always been a popular choice for the RYA Scotland Academies and performance events with some excellent facilities and club volunteers who always ensure success. With a range of boats available, including accessible dinghies, it is a great location to learn to sail.
Howard Marsden of the club comments.... “Bring your friends and join our members for a fun day trying dinghy sailing and yachting. For those with a disability our accessible Challenger dinghies are available for some of the sessions. Enjoy our family BBQ and learn more about what HSC has to offer.”

If you are interesting in tackling some of the causes of Marine Litter in Scotland why not get involved in Keep Scotland Beautiful's Citizen Science project #Source2Sea starting next weekend and running from the 4th-11 May.
The Citizen Science project aims to capture data through about the types of litter, its accumulation and movement through the Clyde river system.
The surveys and clean ups will create valuable data on the issue and take action to clean up and prevent litt...er in the future. The project will use collected data through until early 2020.
The Source 2 Sea Citizen Science toolkit has been developed to be used by community groups, organisations, businesses and schools alike to help build up a picture of litter on the Clyde and its tributaries.
They need your help to get your local area on or around the Clyde on the map!
Keep Scotland Beautiful are asking communities or clubs in the area adopt a survey site adjacent to a waterway within the Clyde catchment whether that be a small burn, tributary river or the Clyde itself.
The boating community maybe able to assist in collating data on some areas of the Clyde near clubs or in harder to reach areas and any help to assist in the project would be warmly welcomed.
Further information on how to get involvedcan be found below. https://www.keepscotlandbeautif…/upstre ambattle/citizen-science
