#FakeorFortune Don't miss the next episode of the BBC's Fake or Fortune? featuring our Lady Elizabeth Murray and Dido Belle portrait.
Philip and Fiona investigate two rare portraits of black British subjects from the 18th and 19th centuries. Painted with extraordinary skill and sophistication, both pictures are highly unusual in their positive depiction of black sitters at a time when Britain was still heavily engaged in slavery. But this is also an intriguing double whodu...nnit. Who are the artists who broke with the conventions of the time to paint these exceptional works?
This coming Sunday 2nd September at the earlier time of 8pm

🚴‍♂️🚵‍♂️🏅We had a visit first thing this morning from the Mayor of Chichester, Martyn Bell and his cycling legends' Justin Bulpett and Malcolm Meaby. Malcolm and Justin are cycling all the way from John O'Groats to Chichester to raise funds for the Stone Pillow charity. They made a special detour to visit the Stone of Scone, also thought to be Jacobs Pillow, here at Scone Palace. To top up the energy reserves they enjoyed one of our famous scones at Scone before setting off to their next destination, the Lanarkshire town of Biggar. If you see the boys on their travels be sure to give them a cheer and if you wish to sponsor them to help reach their £10,000 target, please visit www.stonepillow.org.uk Good Luck Boys!! 🤗

We had a lovely day at Scone Palace yesterday. The grounds are beautiful, we took the Friar's Den walk route and really enjoyed the scenery from the kitchen garden, the pinetum to the maze (where I found out my hubby has no sense of direction!!) was a lovely autumnal day. We enjoyed looking around the palace and learning about the history of the family and Belle. We loved seeing the peacock and even caught one checking itself out in a car reflection! We rounded our trip off with a Scone at Scone out in the little courtyard which was a perfect ending to a perfect day

User

We got married at Scone Palace in 2006 and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Everything was arranged remotely in just a few weeks. They made everything easy and made us feel very special. From the welcome on the steps when we arrived, to the guided tour of the palace, to the private dinner in one of the rooms and the special, unexpected touches it was a magical, memorable day. If we had planned years in advance we couldn’t have found a more perfect venue for a small, secret wedding. Gorgeous location, fabulous photos and the food was amazing too!

This was such an interesting place so much knowledge an learning to be found an the grounds an maize were fantastic . .cant wait to visit again money well spent

This is a shout out to the absolutely terrific staff at Scone Palace!!

Myself and two friends visited yesterday and we were blown away by how lovely, welcoming and approachable all the staff were, in particular, Eliza, who sold us our tickets.

We are all recent graduates and are all working and saving over the summer to fund our Masters come September. When we arrived at the ticket desk we were greeted by a Eliza who asked us if we were students. When we explained the situation, she said that 'was good enough for her' and offered us student admission to the Palace, which was much appreciated. She was also genuinely interested in our future plans and treated us as so much more than merely visitors coming through the gate - thank you so much Scone Palace and the Eliza for your kindness and generosity!!

User

The grounds are also a highlight. Some of the largest trees in the UK are here and Peacocks and Highland cattle are abound.

User

Our first visit to the Palace and grounds (not counting Run or Dye 5K fun run 2 years ago!). The staff were really friendly and very informative. The prices were reasonable. The interior of the palace was lovely. What caught my attention were the clocks! It's not often you go to castles etc and see these old clocks working. What lovely sounds they made. The grounds were stunning, well kept, and the Maze, well, where do I start! Although, it was good fun getting frustrated and confused for a half hour, but we made it out! The place was buzzing with visitors. Totally steeped in history, managed to read my guide book at night when I got home. Loads of info provided within the palace though. A fab day out with the family. Thank you.

User

My daughter Jacqui and l visited Scone Palace and we had an amazing day. We took to the grounds first as weather forecast predicted we may face rain! No! we thoroughly enjoyed the different sightseeing areas dotted along amongst the most amazingly large trees and gorgeous rhodedendrums.

Entering Scone Palace was awesome - don't really know where to begin! Oh! Congratulations to the dedicated person who keeps the 35 clocks wound up and correct time every day! Wow! Steeped in history and they manage to make it interesting - kind of brings it up to date with showing present residents!

Extremely friendly staff and the admin first class. Lot of thought put into making you feel very welcome, but in a relaxed manner! Oh! and the beautiful peacocks roam around showing off their amazing plumes! Missed a quick shower having our lovely cuppa / impressed with their service of soup etc late on in the day too!Highly recommend a visit to this beautiful place you certainly will not be disappointed! Well done to all involved with Scone Palace - very impressed!!

User

It was a really lovely place, well taken care of, and full of history. It was such an important place in Scottish history and it's wonderful that we are able to view the palace and the grounds.

User

I had not visited here before and am glad we went. Just so much history, artefacts and the building were at their very best. The grounds were too wet to visit so saved that for another visit. Good staff, nice food and well worth the effort.

User

Had a lovely weekend attending the Perthshire Classic Car Festival in the beautiful ground of the Palace - highly recommended

User

Had a lovely visit. Palace is beautiful inside or with a wonderful history. The grounds are stunning with much to see and experience and the kitchen garden was a real treat. I was also pleasantly surprised to find delicious vegan options in the coffee shop. The staff and service are excellent, friendly and helpful. I'm definitely keen to return!

User

Fantastic place for kids of all ages. 1 day wasn't enough to time to fully enjoy everything the castle and grounds has to offer. All staff were very helpful and friendly specially Mrs Milne who greeted us at the castle door and was so welcoming, giving the kids a sheet to find various item around the castle and chatting to me about our shared name. The grounds were beautiful and the kids really enjoyed the maze - all working together to find their way through the maze. (Even though my 17 year old cheated and used google maps to help them solve the maze). We had a long walk around the grounds and had great fun investigating the woods. We're already planning a trip back at Halloween for the Castle's Halloween themed event.

User

Absolutely amazing venue.....cant praise the team enough for all their efforts in everything they do.xx

User

Went to REWIND for the weekend and my bestie treated us both to breakfast well worth it gonna go back and have a proper sightsee with the family ...beautiful place ...lovely wee church/chapel in the grounds ..and on the plus side was a beautiful hot sunny day ..bliss

User

The Gardens are imaculate, well arranged and care for. The Kitchen Garden is a must see and helpers are welcome. The staff are either very friendly or totally ignore you. The House is typical of an opened Stately Home, but like many others it is not run by Natioal Trust or Scottish Trust, so it's main aim is not the conservation of the House, but rather making cashfrom it so don't expect any normal prices. They don't even do free or reduced entry for Veterans. Makes me wonder why we bothered.

User

Scone palace and garden's are well worthy of a visit. The grounds are lovely with Peacock's roaming around. A house steeped in history, the short film shown in one of the rooms was interesting and informative. It was also interesting to see the model of the previous Abbots palace that scone was built over. The room's on view were beautiful to see and the staff very helpful and friendly in each room. I thought that the tour was disappointing, having staff positioned in every room i thought they could have been much more proactive with engaging visitors and talking about the rooms and their contents, the family and the history. I appreciate that it is still a private home but with the owner now living elsewhere it would be lovely to see more of the house. I have visited a few historic houses now and i cant understand why they lay the rooms out the way they do. I want to see the house as it would have been used, not evey room cluttered with every object you can imagine and a bedroom put next to the library who"s bookcases are full of china.....so puzzling. Still a very beautiful palace and well worth a visit.

User

Nice house with friendly guides. The grounds are great, with a range of walks for those of differing abilities. I especially liked the maze (10 mins to escape) and the pinetum - there's some really big-old trees there! (Also, I can recommend the chutney from the shop.)

User

I visited Scone Palace yesterday. The house and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. As soon as I parked my car I was welcomed by one of the resident peacocks who spread his beautiful feathers for all to see. The house itself is beautiful and full of history. I went for a long walk through the grounds and ended up having a coffee and Scone outside the cafe. Well worth a visit and I really got my money's worth.

User

Beautiful building and grounds. However, if this is being pitched as a 'family day out' i feel investment is required in play area. We were looking forward to the 'adventure play park' but this was a major let down; shabby and lack of equipment for slightly older children. Maze was good fun but glad we didn't pay full price - ok value with an itison voucher.
