Open to writers worldwide - £1000 short story award (max 2000 words) & £500 flash fiction award & £500 award for unpublished Scottish writers

Scottish Arts Trust Short Story Awards Description

The competition is run by the Scottish Arts Trust and is open to all writers, worldwide. Stories should be no more than 1, 500 words and can be on any topic. Entry fee £10. All funds raised through the competition will be channelled through the Scottish Arts Club Charitable Trust to support the arts in Scotland.

First prize is £1, 000, 2nd prize £500 and 3rd prize £250. . Unpublished writers born, living or studying in Scotland who enter the short story competition may also apply for the £500 Isobel Lodge Award for New Scottish Writing.

The Edinburgh Flash Fiction Award is also open to writers worldwide and is for stories up to 250 words. First prize £600, second prize £300 and third prize £150.

The Scottish Arts Club, located in classic Rutland Square, Edinburgh, has been in operation for more than 140 years. It provides members with a lively programme of talks, films, recitals and exhibitions. It includes a beautiful art studio used for portrait, life—drawing and other arts, a great restaurant and a club room with a fine grand piano. The Club also includes an active Writer’s Group which organises workshops for writers as well as the short story competition. The Club welcomes new members.
