Scottish Episcopal Diocese Of Argyll And The Isles Description

The Diocese of Argyll & The Isles is possibly the largest Diocese in Scotland geographically, but the smallest in the number of its members. We stretch from the northern tip of Lewis to the Mull of Kintyre, as well as the mainland of Argyll, taking in all the Hebrides and the islands of Skye, Mull, Iona and many smaller ones in the north, and Bute, Arran and Cumbrae in the Firth of Clyde. Be assured, if you visit one of the churches of a warm welcome from the people, even if the weather can make your journey interesting and eventful!

The concept of Local Collaborative Ministry, aimed at involving many more people in playing key roles in the church ministry (ordained and lay) is of vital importance to us, and although only recently formalised provincially, it is well established in our Diocese. In a scattered Diocese such as ours where many congregations are unable to support a stipendiary priest, we hope, through Local Collaborative Ministry, to provide an active worshipping and caring Christian community for everyone, whether resident or visitor.
