Loch Maree in Wester Ross, in the North West Highlands has five large wooded islands & 60 smaller ones. Many of the islands have their own lochans (small lochs) Eilean Sùbhainn, the largest Island, contains a loch that itself contains an island !!! 🤯 No where else in the UK can you find this. Scotland is beautiful of course, but across the border in the land of the “ Auld enemy” lies some pretty impressive Castles. Bamburgh is sometimes known as “the King of the Castles” with origins going back to the Celtic Britons. I met the McEttricks in Newcastle and we explored the North East of England. These guys came all the way from Boston , USA. In the small woodland behind the little church In Fife, lies an ancient pre-Christian holy site. The first thing you see is the “altar stone”, a well, and an ancient footprint carved into the rock overlooking the wee burn ( small stream) The well, which sits at the top may have been used for human sacrifice by ancient druids, although it is more likely that it was simply revered as a natural wonder. The steep stone steps carved into the cliff during a bygone Pagan era lead d...own to a place that has a feel of a very special place. Protected, sheltered and understandably identified as a spiritual place. Here Celtic crosses and symbols have been carved into the cliff face by worshippers both modern and ancient. Pagan pilgrims venturing to the site leave offerings of all kinds hanging from the trees and tucked into crevices in the cliffs. I would always advise against leaving anything behind in the nature,but those who do, choose odd objects. I came here searching for a particular carving of the “Green Man” An ancient pagan symbol of re-birth. While searching I stumbled across two girls playing with Tarot cards.They were sitting on the ground in the middle of the site. It was a bit like the opening scene of an old horror movie! Whilst waiting for them to levitate, I explained I was looking for the carving. They both gazed up at me and with “dead pan” expressions said “... he will only appear if he chooses...” They gathered their cards and left !!! Well, he did choose too and although I’m not sure of the age of the carving, it was wonderful to see and experience this ancient site.

The “bunnet stane “ in Fife ! Beneath the Bunnet Stane is a cave called the Maiden's Bower. The story is that many years ago a young girl fell in love with the son of a rival family. The stone was their meeting spot but one day, as she approached, she saw her father's men kill the young man. The real William Wallace is actually Ed, from Cancun !! Who knew !!!! Such a great 3 days with Cheryl, Julie & Edwin. Edinburgh Castle & the Old Town , Stirling Castle, the National Wallace Monument, Deanston Distillery,Glencoe & the Jacobite Express, to name a few. We were busy !! Thank you all for such a great and funny few days. Enjoy travelling around Ireland.

South Queensferry welcomes cruise ships throughout the year. Scotland’s capital city of Edinburgh is easily reached from the small port on the Firth of Forth. Betty & Bob contacted me regarding an Edinburgh City Tour and also Rosslyn Chapel. Along with Connie & Jon we enjoyed a great day visiting Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Park, Edinburgh’s New Town and as well Rosslyn Castle & Chapel. It’s was a pleasure showing these guys around a little bit of Scotland.
