Scottish Pig Keepers Association Description

The SPKA was founded in 2011 for the purpose of promoting pigs in Scotland.

It's a continuation of lots of hard work by dedicated breeders Lillian & Robert Waddell and David Chlad. Over the last few years they've been a regular sight at agricultural shows across the country (even travelling down to England to show their pigs), exhibiting pigs and trying to raise pigs' profile in the Scottish farming community. The BPA stand at the Royal Highland Show has been the highlight of their calendar and most viewed pig demonstration in Scotland to date. There are a few other keepers, spread far and wide who do the same thing on a smaller scale at local shows, but nowhere in Scotland has staged a competitive pig showing class for 30 years.

Doune & Dunblane are not having pig classes this year, so the first for us is Bigger Show. Hope to see you on the day.

it has been a wee while since i kept you all up to date on fb, well there is no pig classes at Lesmahagow Show this year due to a small amount of exhibitors. We are having pig classes at Doune & Dunblane Show, and also Biggar Show and there will be sausage competitions held at the above events. I am hopeful that there could be the possibility of pig classes at the Border Union Show but need to get this clarified. I will keep you more up to date when i get clarification from the committee of the 3 shows mentioned.

Well Forfar was the last of the pig classes andc sausage competitions for 2012, a few mishaps along the way but the worst was Forfar, detains can be found on the website at www.scottishpigs.co.uk.

We as an organisation have been asked to participate in this event next year, very careful consideration will have to be given to this as the discrepancies out lined imparts greatly on the Scottish Pig Keepers Association even if they did not have a hand in any of the discrepancies... outlined. One or two could be attributed to this being a new event ,but for the amount of mistakes, hiccups or just thoughtlessness both on the organisers and who they choose to be under them, even down to the catalogue which listed exhibitors and entries was changed on the day which made it a totally shambolic event. In short had the entries been thrown in the air and the order they came down as the winners would have been more understandable. I just wonder what the sponsors of this competition would make of it once it is known what went on and appears to be a cover up by not informing entrants of all the facts. A simple hands up and honesty by the organisers about this would have reinstated faith in the ability of them to do another similar event, after all any new to the art of sausage making, how are they going to improve their ability if they do not get correct feedback from these events

Congratulations to David Chlad for winning the coc (pigs) at Lesmahagow Show yesterday, we were all heat stressed pigs and exhibitors as the temp was 26 degree, last year we had rain, hail, sleet, wind, looking forward to our next show, Robert and I set up the penning on the friday, we need more helpers so if you can spare a couple of hours to help us with this please get in touch, it is unfair for the same folk to keep doing it on there own.
