We've just finished a Scottish Routes 4 day tour to Islay. It was brilliant. Staying in Bowmore was just like being in the movie Local Hero right down to the motorcycle going up and down the road. The distillery visits were fabulous with the Lagavulin warehouse experience hard to beat. The scenery on the trip to the ferry terminal on the mainland was spectacular but even moreso on the return trip through Loch Lomond National Park. That was breathtaking. But the star of the trip had to be our tour guide Duncan. He was truly amazing. Gave us a lot of history and lots of laughs. Can't wait for the next one to Speyside.

User

We took the 4-day Islay whisky tour and it was the best tour of my life! The tour was planned air-tight in terms of timing, our guide, Brian, was bright, funny, knowledgeable, relatable, and entertaining! Did I say bright and funny? And a great sport! Every minute of the tour was a delight, and when we return to Scotland, hopefully within a couple of years, Scottish Routes is the company we will call first!

User

We just finished a week long, tailored Scotch distillery tour with Duncan and Scottish Routes and cannot find the right words to describe how awesome it was! To begin with, Will and Sarah in the home office were easy to work with. They responded quickly and designed a custom tour to include the distilleries we wanted to see combined with ones they recommended. They also added in hikes and walks, historical sites, and castles. Our guide Duncan was fantastic. He was always on time to pick us up. He was very knowledgeable of Scottish history, lore, and of course, scotch. His sense of humor made long days of driving and touring seem short. We were able to fit so much into a week because Duncan knew the area and shortcuts. I couldn't imagine going to Scotland, driving those roads, and getting half as much accomplished as what we did with Scottish Routes. They take care of everything: selecting B&B's, selecting distilleries, arranging special tastings, and booking other things like castle tours. There is no other way I would travel to Scotland again. We plan to go back for hiking, mountain biking, kayak, and golf and plan to ask for Duncan. Cheers!!

User

We just finished a three nights tour with Duncan and Elsa out on Islay. We cannot find the right words to describe how awesome it was! We are simply blown away by how much Scottish Routes crammed in.

Duncan our tour guide was a real superstar, nothing was too much trouble, he was very knowledgable and full of information. Good choices of music and histories made the bus full of very happy tourists.

Scottish Routes from booking to the end of our tour have been wonderful, and we will definately use you guys again.

Thanks Duncan, Elsa and Scottish Routes for a wonderful trip. Well done

User

We had a great time on Islay. The whisky tour is a memory for a lifetime. Our guide, Sarah was spot on and did a great job. Just spending my 44:th birthday on the island was not bad either Six Star rating out of five

User

We are having an awesome tour. Our guide Duncan is knowledgeable and very entertaining as well. A superb driver in some crazy Scottish weather today, he was great. The choice of distilleries has been excellent, and our B&B in Bowmore has been gracious hosts. Thank you Andrew and Alison.

User

The tour I went on with Brian to Islay was wonderful! Everything was perfectly planned out and I can't wait until I can return to take the Speyside tour!

User

Thanks for a great trip to Speyside with your wonderful guide Duncan. I have learned a lot and will for sure enjoy whisky much more in the future :)

User

Scottish Routes is awesome. I just got home from the 4 day Islay tour. Tasted some of the finest whisky in the world!!! Our tour guide, Sarah, was absolutely wonderful. She narrated the Scottish history as we visited numerous castles, Abby's, and other historical places. Made the ride go by very easily. Great sense of humor and awesome story teller. And she has a passion for single malts that is undeniable. The tour is extremely well planned and executed. All the distillery tours are scheduled and there is no waiting.

The bed and breakfast we stayed in, in Bowmore was great from the moment we arrived. There was introductions over a healthy dram of Bowmore and my room had an unrestricted view of the ocean.

The tours of the distilleries were very informative and interesting. All ended with tasting. I think the best were the 35 year cask strength Lagavoulin or the 51 year cask strength Lagavoulin. Very close were the Bunnahabhains from the casks deep in their warehouse.

It is difficult for me to express the magnitude of my satisfaction with the Scottish Routes experience!!! If you have any interest in the finest single malts in the world 🌎 and want the absolute highest quality tour, this is the tour for you!

My husband and took the Scottish Routes tour to Islay in early May. Our guide Andrew was a constant source of information and humor. He expertly toured us from Distillery to Distillery with many beautiful stops and sights along the way. The accommodations at Bowmore House with proprietors Alison and Andrew we also excellent. The rooms and breakfast were fantastic...our room had the longest bathtub I have ever seen which made for a great soak at the end of the day. Would highly recommend this tour and I'm not even a Scotch drinker, but my husband is. I enjoyed the photographic opportunities provided.

User

My husband and I took a private, tailor-made tour with the incomparable Will in September 2011. Even before the tour started, he was always professional and prompt in answering my emails. His passion for the Highlands and the Islands was obvious when my life-long wish to visit the Isle of Skye came true. When you are ready to take the trip of a lifetime to Scotland, don't settle for anybody other than Scottish Routes. It will be worth the wait, and worth every penny/ pence!

User

Just finished 4 days tour of Islay with Brian.

Loved everything about it! The Islay itself, the great friendly people, excellent experience in Bowmore House B&B, interesting tours, delicious scotch tastings, great group of people on the bus (just the right number- a dozen). But people! They are a highlight of the experience. Even though I tend to be introverted, I was actually looking forward to seeing everyone every morning.

Brian was very good, -friendly, helpful, professional, good humour. We all loved the trip!

User

Just back from a 4 day tour to Islay with a great group. Brian was the perfect guide: very knowledgeable of the area, whiskies and distilleries. During A couple of the longer road trips he kept us amused with funny stories and history lessons. The Bowmore guest house was fab. Very helpful and welcoming, delicious breakfasts. An all round superb experience. A big plus - the weather was glorious

User

In the middle of a Speyside tour with Duncan. What a great trip. Good whisky, good company, good accommodations and lots of information. You should stop thinking about it and just book a tour now.

User

Gotta love the folks at Scottish Routes. Sarah and company put together a fabulous 10 day whisky tour for our group of six guys. The itinerary and the overnight residences selected for us were impeccable. Just as important, our tour guide, Marti, kept us enthralled with his remarkable whisky expertise, good humor, professionalism, enthusiasm and knowledge of Scottish history. Thanks to Marti, we learned that everything of value in this world was either thought of, or invented by, a Scotsman. Who knew? Oh, and the whisky was delicious, too. Bottom line: if you want a singular, once-in-a-lifetime whisky experience, and not one of those, "climb on the bus and visit all the usual tourist sites," then you should give Scottish Routes a call. Best tour of anything I've ever been on, the Islay tour 20th-23rd of April. Our tour guide Duncan was absolutely fantastic!

User

Amazing Easter trip to Islay- James the guide is brilliant, very well organised and loads of fun.

User

Actively on our second tour with Scottish Routes and they are just simply the best! Professional, authentic, fun, incredibly knowledgeable and they do an excellent job coordinating large groups. The distilleries they chose were diverse, tasty, and educational-already planning our third trip in 2018:)

User

Absolutely brilliant distillery tour up to Islay with Scottish Routes. Well planned trip with superb accommodation at the Bowmore House B&B. Big thanks to our tour guide James for his hours of driving and endless knowledge.
