Solidarity to the Unite Scotland off-shore members currently on strike on the North Sea oil and gas platforms operated by Total E&P.
In what is already one of the most dangerous jobs, the employer is forcing through some major changes to T&Cs that have the potential to make the situation worse. Research shows that workers on a three-on, three-off rota system suffer from twice as many health problems as workers on a two-on, two-off system.
The workers are off-shore at the mom...ent, so whilst we can't support them on their picket line, we can send them messages of support and solidarity using #strikeforoil on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

The Guardian reports on our recent work with Betterthanzero to expose dire pay and conditions in Skye hotels. The issue is affecting workers right across Scotland's tourism industry.
“Underneath the celebrated tourist trends something isn’t right. There is no use waiting for hotel owners to change exploitative conditions in the interests of profit or goodwill. Local and seasonal workers now need to fight them by coming together and asserting their rights.”

Last week at the Trump rally in George Square, you heard from many speakers urging people to come back this Saturday to stand up against the "Scottish Defence League" at a planned counter-rally.
We had 100,000s of people out on the streets across the UK to protest Trump. We need the same response to the vile, hate filled groups, like the SDF, that are attempting to build support in Scotland and in other parts of the UK.
The events in London at the weekend, where a female bu...s driver was harassed and verbally abused as she went about her duties, and a group of trade unionists were violently attacked in the street, show us that we cannot allow these groups to spread any further.
Today we reiterate that call to join the counter-rally on Saturday to show that fascism and racism has no place here.
Details can be found in the event below 👇

Bar workers have taken on one of Glasgow's largest hospitality employers for breaching their rights, and won - supported by Unite and Betterthanzero.
This is a defeat that the G1 Group could have avoided if they had not reneged in their agreement with Unite the Union.
And it is a victory for all workers who are coming together to take trade union action for dignity and decency in the bars, clubs, cafés and restaurants across the city and country.

General Secretary of the Fire Brigades Union, Matt Wrack, writes in The Guardian:
"We want to see a complete and total ban of flammable cladding. It is shocking that more than a year after the Grenfell fire, this cladding material is still in use. We want to see an end to the privatisation of the fire safety inspection regime that has driven down standards. It has created a system where private, uncertified inspectors rubber-stamp building works, as they have to win the repeat business of building owners. This lax approach to fire safety is unacceptable."

🖋️ ICYMI: STUC's Grahame Smith on Trump's UK visit: https://wp.me/p9yIe7-4p
"Fascism makes progress by increments. It feeds off economic discontent. It manufactures and stokes ethnic, cultural and national grievance. It concentrates power in the hands of its elites. It ostracises minorities or outsiders – those who do not conform to its definition of what is morally or culturally acceptable, who are ‘less worthy’."
An abridged version of this blog was printed in the Daily Record on 13 July 2018.

The trade union movement tears down the walls that divide working people. With Trump in Scotland we’ve built a wall that stands for the unity of all those resisting the President #NaeTrump

Glasgow says #naeTrump with thousands in George Square and our anti-Trump wall: a labour of love to many trade unionists, activists and their family and friends who popped in off the street and took the time to paint a brick #Naetrump #CarnivalOfResistance
