After some thought and deliberation in early 2014 we opened our Luxury Dog Day Care Centre in Stirling, Scotland. With the sole purpose of training and mentoring budding Dog Day Care entrepreneurs wishing to open and sustain a successful and safe dog day care centre. Since then we have trained clients from Denmark to Dorset, with many now operating successful dog day cares of their own.
LEARN THE RIGHT & SAFE WAY
Safe Paws for founded in 2003 by Shirley Macmillan creating one of the first pet caring companies in Scotland with over 50 members of staff providing professional pet care throughout Scotland.
Shirley then complemented her existing business by opening up The Doggy Day Care Centre at Safe Paws, based in Stirling town centre. She liaised closely with Stirling Council’s Environmental Health Department to attain a dog day care and dog training school of exceptional standards. As testament to her excellent reputation in the dog day care industry, council representatives setting up your own dog day care centrefrom all over Scotland have visited the Stirling centre to witness first hand the gold standard day to day running of this unique business. They have adopted her successful policy and format as the benchmark for any prospective day care centres setting up within their own council areas.
Shirley trained in dog day care management in the United States with a representative of the Denver Association of Dog Day Cares. She subsequently brought the “USA Doggy Day Care” concept over to the UK. During this period Shirley was invited to be the industry representative in Scotland participating on the Scottish Council Working Group for dog day care and dog home boarding licensing conditions. Within this group there is the legislator for the Scottish government on animal welfare, the head of the vet school in Glasgow, the Chief superintendent of the SSPCA (Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and most of the environmental health officers in Scotland. Together they developed policy and set gold standards for this new and exciting industry.
Shirley’s main passion is to encourage, support and guide her training clients before, during and after their dog day care management course, helping this new industry get off to the best possible start. Our training clients gain the appropriate knowledge and experience to open up their own successful and safe dog day care centre, therefore attaining a great reputation for the dog day care industry as a whole.
