Simon Muir Furniture

Contemporary Scottish craft furniture; designed and made by hand in Edinburgh.

A graduate of the Edinburgh College of Art, Simon Muir has over twenty-years experience making bespoke pieces of furniture. His work is defined in part by his experience of the Scottish landscape; inspired by the timeless colours and geological forms of Scotland’s mountains, lochs and forests.

He is passionate about design and craftsmanship, particularly the forms and materials of mid-century modern designers such as Alvar Aalto and George Nelson. Simon uses an unusual combination of European and African timbers alongside formica in many of his designs to produce furniture that is modern and elegant. With an eye for detail, line and colour his work stands out and endures.

The funiture workshop in located in the heart of Edinburgh at the Albion Studios near Easter Road. The ‘ABC’ is a red brick former lemonade factory converted into a number of design studios and workshops where Muir manufactures hand made furniture, using traditional cabinet-making techniques. Many pieces are one-off commissions but Muir also undertakes larger, corporate projects.
