Nice Tea room. The food was delicious. A little hard to find from the street because it is up stairs.

Old fashioned tea room overlooking Princes Street and historic buildings and the castle and gardens. Stepping back to a bygone age, good cuppa. Downstairs is the tartan shop and gift shop.

We landed here on our search for a place to get good Haggis with while in the company of a child, since you can't get into almost any of the pubs. A "Top 10 best Haggis" page referred us the SIr Walter Scott Tea Room. The entrace is through the souveneir shop, which should already have told us quite a bit... upon entering, we were almost the only people eating there. The floor has tartan-pattern and "traditional" music is playing in the background. It felt much too touristic, and not really like a traditional tea room. Nevertheless, we thought we'll try our luck.
While our waiter was very attentive and trying hard, the food itself was boring. I won't say it was bad - but it was pretty much tasteless. I had ordered Haggis, which were served with some sauce and in what I assume is a pretty traditional way, my friend had the soup. The soup was okay, even if not great, and my Haggis was pretty much tasteless - too little salt/pepper, no flavour in the sauce, overall, it was very disappointing.
The only good points here for me were the very nice view and the very nice waiter, even though he sometimes seemed a bit anxious and nervous.
Sadly, I cannot recommend this place for food.

We went in for Breakfast to be told there's no bread for toast which was fine. Then my wife seen some bread getting delivered so I doubled checked but we were informed not that's for sandwiches!!
When my explained Scrambled egg on toast is like a sandwich!!
