The food here is great but the overall experience is weird at best and bad at worst. The soundtrack is sort of old school drum & bass/progressive house which I'm not sure goes that well with dinner. Staff barely acknowledged our existence even when serving us. Then they started sweeping up around our table 20 minutes before closing time. Totally meh.

GREAT croque monsieur! Food could have come a little faster but only one chef working so totally understandable. Lovely spot for breakfast and lunch.

What a little gem of a place. Strolling along the street I happen to discover this little place, excellent service and atmosphere.
Cracking haddock and mussel bisque, tasty and harty on a cold afternoon. Lovely mustard and cheese scone to accompany. Keep it up guys. Definitely be back.

It's a really nice atmosphere at the Skylarks, lots of wood, warmth and old style charm. The staff seemed nice as well.

That was pretty much the best bit, we had some banana bread and coffees both were on the lower side of ok but they took forever to arrive, almost like they were having to grow some more.

Not that we were in a rush but the service really did take forever, both to make our order and for our food and drinks to arrive.

If you're in Portobello, I'd go to Twelve Triangles across the street instead.

Often very crowded with buggies and infants/ young children which makes it noisy. Would benefit from more staff at busier times as waiting for food can be an issue. Excellent food, great chef and bar staff.

Nice meal and a couple of drinks. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Over cooked a steak, but replaced straight away and took it off our bill. Great service!

Great place. The staff and the vibe are very cool. Changes with the hours to suit the folks who come in. A real jewel.

Wonderful pastrami and Swiss cheese bagel served with lovely side salad. Also had a good loose leaf grean tea.
