Epic morning teaching in Gullane - a bit of unexpected forecast, perfect for our large 15m Contra! Well done to Matt for his first super long runs and going properly upwind at the end of the session!

"Kitesurfing makes me feel free. As I’m kiting, I often think of Moana and how she’d be staring at the ocean for as long as she can remember (I sing the songs as I kite too!) but it’s true I feel like I was always meant to kitesurf. Even if my body did make the process difficult." Fantastic interview Wake Up Stoked!

User

Just had a lesson with Jake from Skymonster at Troon in Scotland. I would happily recommend them and left the following review at IKO:

Skymonster instructor Jake was enthusiastic, encouraging and knowledgable and gave expert instruction on and off the water. I was looking to improve my transitions and Jake was able to help me progress significantly throughout the day despite the choppy conditions. With the use of a radio headset he could provide guidance as I practiced the manoeuvres, giving instruction on body/weight position, kite and board control. Off the water Jake gave instruction on setting up and caring for equipment as well as advice on appropriate equipment for various conditions/locations, all of which is essential knowledge if you are intending to purchase your own. Jake even seemed to have a wizard like knowledge of the conditions and miraculously found us a window of sunshine on an otherwise wretched day, a rare trick in Scotland.

Overall the school provided great service, they responded quickly to any communication and tailored the lesson exactly to my requirements. The equipment was all brand new Cabrinha gear and the facilities were as to be expected at a beach in Scotland. I felt in safe hands at all times and appropriate safety equipment (helmet and buoyancy aid) was provided by the school.

I would happily recommend Skymonster to anybody looking for fun and productive kite lessons in Scotland. I look forward to seeing Jake next time I'm at the beach and I'm sure I'll be able to grab a few pointers from him to help continue my progression!

Just finished the two day course with Jake. Great teacher, highly recommended. He was really passionate about the sport and made me even more keen to get on it! After two days was up on the board and in a position to go and start practicing without an instructor, which is exactly what i wanted from the course. Kites are powerful even when the wind was poor, I wouldn't have felt comfortable doing that without somone who knew what they were doing there, ocassionally shouting "let go" :)

The wind has been really poor for ages but Jake got me on the water the first day it picked up. Was flexible and i was able to fit it around work and family commitments. Now just excited to get out and get better. Cheers!

Just done a course with Skymonster at Troon in Scotland. We have done two days and Jake the instructor was totally flexible and scheduled the course when it was convenient for me (but it was obviously wind-dependant as well). Our instructor was very knowledgeable and also fun to work with. Each day was really half a day since it was quite full on in the water for a couple of hours (I think it wold get dangerous being there too long and losing too much energy and concentration). We were only two students (not sure if other schools have more in one session) so there was not much hanging about. We had a little prior knowledge about flying a kite and wind in general which might have made it easier and a bit quicker to go through the very basic stuff. That gave us a lot of time getting to grips with waterstarts and board control on the second day. Got up and riding (of sorts) in the end and had a blast. I feel I now have learned enough to venture out without an instructor and am ready to improve on what I learned. I can certainly recommend Jake and Skymonster!,

User

Just completed my 2 day course with Jake. Had a great time learning how to kitesurf, definetly reccommend it for anyone wanting to learn. Thanks again

User

I have learnt more kitesurfing with Jake in 2 days than by myself in a year.

User

I had two lessons with skymonster. Jake was extremely helpful both with how many lessons I would need and advice on local conditions etc. The two lessons allowed me to gain my level 3 which is what I had wanted to achieve.

My instructor Gregory was extremely patient and I improved quickly under instruction with some excellent advice, safety was also important for these guys so all in, I had an excellent couple of days and lessons.

Would highly recommend

Appreciated and thanks again

User

I had two lessons near Aberdeen and Dundee with Jake from skymonster to help me keep progressing my kitesurfing. He was an excellent instructor, really encouraging and helpful. Definitely recommend.

User

I had an awesome time with the monitor ! Amazing day, love it !

User

I did the 2 day course with Skymonster and loved it. I got to a level where i can now safely practise myself. Jake was extremely patient and helpful. Would definitely recommend Skymonster to anyone wishing to take up kite surfing!

User

I did the 2 day course with Skymonster Kitesurf School. Jake is a phenomenal teacher who really knows his stuff. He took me from being a complete novice to getting up on the board and completing my first runs in just two sessions.

Jake was totally flexible and always managed to work around my schedule to get lessons at times and locations that suited both us and the weather. A natural teacher that is able to impart a load of knowledge, helping me to learn what I should be doing and then adjusting my technique so that I did it right. I loved all the tips and advice he gave throughout the lessons. He helped me understand the necessary conditions, aspects of safety and developed my understanding of all the gear that we used. His honest and impartial advice was great. I received loads of information both between and after my lessons, answering all of the questions I had.

In just two sessions he got me to a stage of feeling confident and ready to start practicing myself. I’m now itching to get back out and learn more.

His dedication to the sport and kiting community is clear. It’s really hard not to get excited about it all when talking to him! I would absolutely recommend Skymonster Kitesurf School to anyone that was thinking about getting into this sport.

User

Had a great lesson down at Dunbar with Jake from Skymonster. He was very flexible and was able to do the lesson when I was about.

I had done some lessons before abroad but was not quite ready to get out in Scottish conditions. Jake was great at fitting the lesson around where I was at with my kitesurfing, and we went straight into the water with radio headsets to communicate. He gave good advice and was able to clear up quite a few things. I now have the confidence to get out on the water myself and practice.

I would highly recommend these lessons to anyone looking to get into kitesurfing!

User

Fantastic 2 day course with Jake, who is a master teacher. He made everything seem easy, teaching the basics step by step. The kit was great, the setting was idyllic, and the sport is even more fun than it looks. Highly recommended to anyone who fancies a go.
