Some incredible pictures coming in from V&A Dundee in advance of their opening tomorrow. No more so than this one, Charles Rennie Mackintosh's 1908 Oak Room which was beautifully brought back to life by one of our long standing customers Charles Taylor Woodwork. One of the challenges was to recreate the original wood stain and we were delighted when Charles asked us to produce a bespoke product.
In our opinion Mackintosh Oak Room Oil 17/10 looks wonderful!

Today marks 10 years since we started our french polishing courses for beginners. In that time we have run 52 courses and over 300 people have learnt the dark arts of french polishing. None of this would have happened were it not for the wonderful tutors Eleanor and Lizzi from Dovetails in Partick, Glasgow. They are the sole reason why the courses have been such a success.. thank you.

A white shellac sealer primer BLOCKADE™ permanently seals in stains, from grease, water, smoke, crayon, ink, lipstick, rust and wood knotting in one coating prior to overcoating with any emulsion or oil based paint. We are delighted to launch our new logo. For the first time in over fifty years we commissioned a professional designer and are delighted with the final result. The brief was to refresh the current Smith & Rodger logo to reflect the quality and heritage of the company and over the coming months, our labelling, stationery, website will all be updated to incorporate the new design.

A bit of advance notice to say that we'll be closed from tomorrow (Friday 25th 4.30pm) through to Tuesday 29th May for the Bank Holiday. Let's hope the weather lasts!

Ian at Smith and Rodger recommended which products to use on some joinery we'd had done at home. We bought Satin Aquacoat SP and some oak stain and it came up really well - delighted with the results.
