About Solway View Caravan & Camping Site

Solway View Caravan & Camping and Solway View Wigwams

Solway View Caravan & Camping Site Description

Solway View Caravan & Camping Site is an eco-friendly small site located with great views over the estuary of the River Dee & into the Solway Firth.

We offer an ideal destination for individuals, well behaved groups, couples & families to enjoy a holiday and short breaks.

Solway View is centrally located in the Dumfries & Galloway region & is a great base to explore from. The towns of Gatehouse-of-Fleet, Kirkcudbright & Castle Douglas are all nearby & well worth a visit. Balmangan Farm is a 330 acre working beef & sheep farm. The coastal farmland is easily accessed through our farm & nature trails. Any time of year, you can enjoy walking the adjoining woodland with its ever changing colour scheme; you may even meet some roe deer. Just a short walk from site, you could also enjoy the tranquillity of the two little secluded bays along the coast.

If your interests are outdoor pursuits & activities or you simply wish to sit back and relax, make your way to Solway View, we will look forward to meeting you.

We've just spent 5 nights in a running water wigwam, our first holiday with our little one (10 months) and had a great time. Plenty of space, a high chair and baby bath provided and very comfy beds (it's just a shame the baby doesn't like sleep!).

Having camped at Solway View a couple of years ago, we knew the facilities would be clean and well looked after, so it's lovely to be able to say the same about the wigwams. Thanks Patricia and Neil - we'll be back!

User

We had a lovely short break with our 2 children. The owners were so friendly and couldn’t be more accommodating. Our wigwam was newly built and immaculate inside, it had everything we needed. The cook house and showers were kept beautifully clean and well equipped. The whole camp site is just gorgeous and small enough that we didn’t have to worry too much when our wayward 3 year old tried her usual escape acts! The girls loved walking down to the little shore and all the activities in the surrounding area including Cream of Galloway and the Cocoa Bean factory. A lovely family holiday making memories. Thank you, we will be back!

User

We camped over the first bank holiday in may.

Brilliant camp site with massive pitches.

Very clean toilet and shower blocks. Fire pits are great. Views stunning and frizbe golf a winner. We will definitely be back ASAP.

User

Was a lovely place to stay. Quiet and with lovely views and great facilities. Will definitely be popping back.

User

Very good camp site x owners are amazing people xx

User

This is the 2nd time I’ve been to this site. It is at a great location. I stayed in the wigwams which were well equipped, comfortable and had amazing views. Would certainly recommend it and plan to return.

User

Stayed here for the first time last night and had a great time despite the weather. Owners were very friendly, site is in a lovely location and we all loved playing disc golf. Will definitely be back!

User

Spent Easter here in our tent was very cold but had a lovely weekend the facilities and owner are the best we have come across we had a fantastic time here in August and couldn’t wait to return and feel the same already beautiful site and beautiful part of Scotland

User

Scared to tell people how lovely Solway View is incase the peace and serenity get wrecked by attracting hoards of folks there.

It is a little peace of heaven on earth, gorgeous views, lovely walks, woodland paths and quiet hidden beaches.

We have just returned from what was supposed to be a 5 night visit but couldn't bear to leave and extended for another 2 nights though it could happily have been 2 weeks or more that we added.

An absolutely delightful camp site with good eco credentials, great facilities and well sited for exploring Dumfries & Galloway (or for never leaving the site except on foot or bike).

This was our second visit and we can honestly say we are in love with the place and just thank the Picken family for sharing their lovely farm site with the rest of us.

Will most definitely back for longer in the not too distant future.

Thank you.

User

Returned for 3rd year in a row to find all wigwams were brand new with ensuite WC, more space and a balcony. Warm welcome as always, site is kept immaculate and Neil & Patricia excellent hosts. Even provided us with fresh ice every morning for fishing bait. Hope to return for many years to come!

User

Just back from 3 nights camping at Solway View. Fantastic as ever a wee bit cold in the tent but we had our trusty hot water bottles at the ready.

What a great job Neil and Patricia have made of the frisbee golf, a must if you stay as its great fun for family's or couples and guaranteed to have you laughing all they way round. There are two sets of markers one for the adults and one for the small ones. Full instructions will be given when you collect the frisbees. Fresh air, lovely scenery and fantastic hosts. What more could you ask for ???

User

I pondered about leaving a review - more for selfish reasons as this site really is a hidden gem and I don’t want anyone else knowing about it!! Spotless toilets and showers, the grounds are very well kept and the owners are very welcoming. My 3 children loved the freedom and we will certainly be booking again....thank you for a lovely holiday....even the car breaking down didn’t spoil it x

User

I decided to take a couple nights away by myself at the weekend and found the wigwams at Solway View after trawling the internet looking for somewhere. I am so happy I did, this place is an absolute gem and total value for money. Friendly welcome, wigwam with running water, clean shower blocks, great view and so peacefull. Just what I needed, i'll defo be back.

User

Don't think I have ever been wigwamming and been desperate to return the next day.

Even without the fantastic weather, this place definitely exceeds expectations.

Patricia & Neil are amazing hosts, and the time & effort they put into the place shows. Absolutely immaculate.

The unexpected extras, like birds of prey, flying display; exceptionally warm welcome (never before been shown about a wigwam and explained how it all works), electricity meters run at bear minimum, can't gush enough about this place.

Immaculate toilets, cook house and very respectful manner & restraint, towards my kids incessant questions and requests.

As much as I would love to keep this wee gem to myself, my own wee hideaway, I wouldn't be doing them justice.

Highly recommended. Hoping to go back down at end of summer holidays. (",) xXx

Brilliant site and facilities. The wigwam was so cosy and warm. Great for kids, they loved the play park and lots of space for running around. The lovely walk down to the secluded bay really made the holiday. We will definitely return!

User

Brilliant campsite with excellent, very well maintained facilities. Beautiful setting. Our little girl loved the farm animals on the fields, the close by beach, and the little play park. The Wigwam exceeded our expectations by a long shot.

Amazing place quite central to lots of places to visit, local town close by lots of sea views and surrounding beaches. Dog friendly, showers and washing facilities, quiet campsite, well placed out camping and yurts massive pitch to yourself, walks just metres away, a working farm so see lots of animals but they have been pleasantly quiet
