About South Lanarkshire Carers Network

A Carer is a person of any age who provides unpaid help and support to a relative, partner, friend or neighbour.

South Lanarkshire Carers Network Description

In August 1998 the South Lanarkshire Carers Network was formed to establish a Network for all unpaid Carers and their issues in South Lanarkshire.
Prior to this, a steering group had been meeting as a result of a Carers Strategy which had been drafted by South Lanarkshire Council in early 1998. The steering group presented a response to the draft Carers’ Strategy to South Lanarkshire Council, based on the collated information gained from a seminar held in Blantyre Miners Welfare on 21st April 1998.

On 22nd March 1999 within the Council Chambers, Hamilton, South Lanarkshire Council formally launched the South Lanarkshire Carers Strategy, together with a response from a Carer.

From here, the agenda was set and the aims and objectives of the Network were created.

General Medical Services (GMS) contract agreed for Woodstock Medical Centre
NHS Lanarkshire has concluded a successful selection process which will ensure the continuity of primary medical services to patients of Woodstock Medical Centre, Lanark.
In line with due process, a selection panel was convened on Friday 14 February 2020.
... The outcome of that was to award the General Medical Services (GMS) contract to Lanarkshire Medical Group (LMG). The decision has now been ratified by the acting chief executive of NHS Lanarkshire.
This followed the decision in September 2019 by the existing GP partners at Woodstock Medical Centre to end their GMS contract with NHS Lanarkshire on 6 April 2020.
Dr Linda Findlay, Medical Director of South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership said: “The completion of this vital stage marks the attainment of NHS Lanarkshire’s primary objective, which has been for Woodstock Medical Centre to continue with new GPs providing primary medical services to patients in Lanark and providing ongoing employment of staff.
“The focus of NHS Lanarkshire is now on supporting the transition between the outgoing partners and Drs Rehman & Lal on behalf of LMG. A number of areas of work and discussions relating to the transition are now ongoing.
“We are in the process of communicating this information to staff, stakeholders and patients of the practice. We will also be assuring patients that NHS Lanarkshire is committed to working with LMG to provide services to everyone registered with the practice.
“In the meantime, the practice will continue to operate as normal with the continued support of NHS Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership to ensure the continued provision of general medical services to the people of Lanark going forward beyond 6 April 2020.”
Four patients from the practice were involved in the selection process. As part of the selection panel, these patients were able to scrutinise and seek assurances on how services will be delivered going forward. The decision to award the contract to LMG was unanimous across both the patient representatives and other panel members.
As well as the patients, the panel comprised of Michael Fuller, non-executive director, NHS Lanarkshire (chair); Craig Cunningham, head of commissioning and performance, South Lanarkshire H&SCP; Dr Linda Findlay, medical director, South Lanarkshire H&SCP and Dr Tyra Smyth, Lanarkshire area medical committee (GP sub-committee).
Dr Findlay added: “NHS Lanarkshire is also grateful to all who have supported this process, particularly the patient representatives on the selection panel.
“We would like to offer a sincere note of thanks to the existing GPs for the health care they have provided to the local community and the staff of Woodstock for their forbearance and ongoing commitment during this time.”

Sign Up here The Monklands Replacement Project (MRP) is NHS Lanarkshire’s exciting and positive vision for University Hospital Monklands and the local and wider community it serves, proposing a major investment in Lanarkshire’s hospital estate by rebuilding the hospital on a new site.
Monklands is an ageing hospital and most of the mechanical and electrical infrastructure has exceeded its life expectancy. Recurring failures not only have ongoing and increasing financial implications but also have an impact on the delivery of clinical services. The current facilities lack space and the buildings don’t have the right layout to ensure the ideal model of care, which requires particular departments and services to be located close together.
A new, state-of-the-art University Hospital Monklands will support the required clinical model (how clinicians will treat patients in the future) to meet the objectives set out in NHS Lanarkshire’s healthcare strategy, Achieving Excellence which has the ambition to: shift care away from inpatient treatment to day case, day treatment, outpatient and community care; develop pan-Lanarkshire hospital centres of excellence; and support the healthcare needs of the wider West of Scotland.

Shared on behalf of Carers Scotland We need your help to paint a picture of what it’s like to be a carer in 2019. Take or share the State of Caring survey - the UK's most comprehensive research into the lives and experiences of carers.
Evidence from it will help us to push carers up the agenda for policy makers and to campaign for recognition and change. In the next year we want to bring carers' voices and experience to the heart of decisions about:
... • Spending on care and support services • Financial support for carers • Improving carers health and wellbeing

Shared on behalf of South Lanarkshire Consumer & Trading Standards Trading Standards is warning residents to beware of rogue traders taking advantage of damaged roofs, fences and fallen trees. The warning comes after Storm Ciara hit the region last week and with Storm Dennis expected to bring disruption at the weekend. Rogue traders can appear both charming and extremely plausible on the doorstep, but their work is of a poor quality and sometimes they will take money for mate...rials and simply disappear. They may quote low prices, but they will soon demand more money and very often the work they claim needs doing is completely unnecessary. Trading Standards are also warning residents to beware of rogue roofers going door to door, falsely claiming to work for ‘the council’. The Trading Standards Business and Communities Team
