Southside Fringe Glasgow Description

The Southside Fringe is focused upon providing a fortnight of quality opportunities for acts, performers and musicians. We also hope to involve as many venues and businesses as we can with a view to boosting existing custom over the fortnight and to raise the profile of the Southside on the arts landscape and draw new customers, visitors and audiences to the wonderful facilities the Southside has to offer. None of us as organisers will be drawing earnings from the fringe and are running the not for profit business as volunteers.

The concept is quickly garnering support with interested individuals, venues and performers who are all already offering their time for free to get the Fringe off the ground. The financial benefits of participating can be illustrated by looking at The West End Festival “Previous years have resulted in over £1m in sales for the wider Glasgow economy. ” -West End Festival Blog 2012. Or the Merchant City Festival “Councillor Matheson said the 95, 000 people estimated to have attended events had generated "a significant economic benefit for the city". ” –BBC News July 2012.

Isn’t it about time the Southside of Glasgow got in on the act?

It’s an incredibly exciting time in the Southside with fantastic new venues The Glad Café and The Bungo actively encouraging creativity and supporting local Southside talent. The ethos of the Southside Fringe is very much ‘strength in numbers’ : the more facets of the community and local businesses who get involved the louder our voice and the bigger the Southside’s profile will be on the festival map.
