Make sure to get along to Art Walk Porty this weekend and catch our newest member Fiona Bailey's wonderful work 'This Is What Your Looking For' at Art House 32. Fiona is a mixed media artist living in Edinburgh. She creates experiential pieces of writing and assemblage – often autobiographical - inviting the audience to consider human function as a performance. Her current installation 'This Is What You're Looking For' explores assemblage as an aid to working memory, displaying a collection of objects based on domestic and family rituals. Open Saturday 8th Sept 10 - 5pm and Sunday9th Sept 11 - 6pm. https://www.artwalkporty.co.uk/2018/artho use32.html

for mothers that carry inside them their whelp dreams wipe cries from the eyes of their whistle-thin child who push all the pushchairs and frames around sick beds wipe dribble, load drips whilst watching last breaths
... for mothers with wheelchairs who stare back at pavements for mothers with lapdogs who have two bad legs for mothers whose rainbows press flint into sphincters to breathe love and light into smiling decay
for black and blue mothers who blink through the crockery hiding the card from the refuge that day for mothers whose bodies hold millions of sorrys their skins all dry leaves in a magazine pile
for mothers of gossip and scratchcarded hope who pray every day with a recipe song a childlessness whispering a sigh of dull feathers a clockwork of marathons, petrified hair …

Our founder, Lauren will be running a series of creative workshops at Dr Bell's Family Centre for mums living in Leith (EH6 or EH7) starting September 7th. The programme is funded with thanks to UnLtd Scotland and is part of our wider aim to support local mothers through creative opportunities which are not currently accessible due to lack of childcare. Please share with those who may be interested and register through Dr Bells.

'Looking Up' oil on canvas by Jessica Kirkpatrick, one of several paintings featured in the recent HOME exhibition @oldprintworksbrum @msjkirkpatrickart . "This piece is about longing for home. But she is on the outside looking in. Home and family represent both belonging and a fetishistic middle class consumerism and idealization of the family unit. The house looms, asserting itself as a symbol success behind a property line fence. The woman disappears into her role as mothe...r--and they are but cartoons of real life. Of course much of this is based on my contradictory feelings of being home raising children and understanding my own desires for home, and a sense of normalcy. I express this sentiment in art, but in real life am living it. I think the main point of this painting is contradiction." . . . . #painting #jessicakirkpatrick #printworksbirmingham #lookingup #motherhood #nostalgia #california #suburbia #childhood #scotland #motherartist #homexhibition #birmingham #artistmom #familylife #expatlife #spiltmilk #makingmotherhoodvisible #home #womeninthearts #motherhoodrising #girlrising #art #painters #edinburghartists
