St Andrews Union Debating Society Description

Lower Parliament Hall Debates

Listen to and probe some of Britain's greatest minds. Recent illustrious speakers include Sir Menzies Campbell, Lord Owen and Richard Dawkins.

Usually Thursday nights at 7: 30 in Lower Parliament Hall.

Socials

Enjoy the heaps of social events we have lined up throughout the year. Dinners with speakers and bonfires on the beach await.

Intervarsity

Represent St Andrews at competitions across the country. Enter the fast-paced world of competitive debating or simply improve your public speaking and analytical skills at our training sessions. Wednesday afternoons at 2: 00 and Sunday nights at 7: 00 upstairs in the Union.

The selection of our new Communications Secretary will happen in Week 10!
Whereas other members of the board are elected at our upcoming AGM, the Communications Secretary role is appointed after interview. The role of Communications Secretary is extremely important to the committee and is very rewarding. From making cover photos to designing events, this role requires a diligent worker and artistic inclinations.
If you have any questions about becoming our Communications Se...cretary, please don't hesitate to contact Anna-Ruth Cockerham (arc23@).
Candidates should submit an application including an explanation of why you want the role and any relevant experience. Also, candidates must submit cover photos for the following two events (feel free to use any software, Photoshop, Canva, MS Paint, etc):

Join the St Andrews Students' Association, Accommodation St Andrews, and the Union Debating Society in Lower Parliament Hall from 7.30pm on Thursday for our Student Housing Panel. We'll be joined by a range of expert speakers who will be answering your questions on student housing in St Andrews. We hope to see you all there!

Debates will be holding a debating taster session at 6pm on Monday Week 8 - this is the perfect time to try out competitive debating if you haven't already. After this session we'll be heading for drinks in the Union and there will be the opportunity to speak to everyone on committee and our more experienced debaters about how to get involved!
