The Parish of St. Margaret dates from 1929. Its history as a church goes back a further ten years to the erection of a temporary building on approximately the site of the present Church Hall in 1919.

But the first gem of an idea of a St. Margaret's Church can be traced back much further. Canon Walker King, Rector of Leigh since 1859, died on St. Margaret's Day 1892 and, according to tradition his son, Robert Stuart King who succeeded him as Rector, resolved that if ever it became necessary to build a Mission Church in the parish it should be dedicated to St. Margaret. This in fact happened 27 years later.
