About St Matthew'S Paisley

We aim to: develop a safe, inviting and exciting space in our historic Art Nouveau base; meet the identified needs of our local community; and provide pastoral care, guidance and support in wide and varied forms.

St Matthew'S Paisley Description

We love the people of Paisley and are dedicated to improving every aspect of their daily lives: physical, mental and spiritual. With this mission, we aim to: develop a safe, inviting and exciting space in our historic Art Nouveau base; meet the identified needs of our local community; and provide pastoral care, guidance and support in wide and varied forms.

Our current activities are maintaining a place of Christian worship, as well as serving the local community by providing services such as: Parent & Toddlers, Older Adult Lunch Group, Youth activities and Community Cafe. We also take pride ourselves in partnering with other community groups providing a facility and collaborating on projects e. g. Sunshine Recovery Cafe, Paisley Guitar Group, Little Buddies, Gleniffer Singers, Create Paisley and mainstream band Subtopian Planning Board.

St Matthew's building bears comparison with Mackintosh's Queen's Cross Church in Glasgow. The Herald has stated that St Matthews even ‘…out-Mackintoshes the much-cherished church that Charlie built…’ and some consider it to be the most significant Art Nouveau church in Scotland.

It is with this rich built heritage that St Matthews wishes to base its foundation of establishing itself as a centre for Worship, Heritage, Arts and Events, bringing a building of national architectural importance back into full and varied use for the benefit of its local community.
