Stocks Wood Outdoor Centre

A fantastic end to our week with new visitors and regulars making friends, exploring the woodland, developing the use of their senses and developing skills such as fire lighting, archery, leaf recognition and den building. Marshmallows were toasted, corn was popped and hot chocolate slurped. Some chose to enjoy their packed lunch inside our warm cabin as the shed has had a makeover and now has doors, windows and a log burning stove! We're looking forward to seeing more of you back during the Christmas holidays.

SATURDAY FAMILY FOREST SCHOOL Saturday 17th November 1pm-3.30pm We're looking forward to hosting another of our popular Family Forest School sessions. We run these sessions for fantastic value at just £5 per person (under threes are free) as long as we have a minimum of 20 paying visitors. Booking is required.... There'll be opportunities to play games, learn skills such as fire lighting (toasting marshmallows), knots for den building, crafts, pond dipping, bug hunting and lots of family fun. Today we enjoyed searching the woodland for each other in our game of Sardines, persevered to make fire so we could toast our marshmallows, hit a bullseye in soft archery and enjoyed watching the flames dance in the fire whilst eating our packed lunches. In the afternoon fun was had pond dipping, making and eating dinosaur biscuits, making amazing lean-to and A-frame shelters, creating mud mahem in the Mud Kitchen, whittling sticks and making a woodland dragon and going on a blindfold caterpillar walk.

We were very happy to have ITV Border News visit our Holiday Club this morning, encouraging people to get outdoors and be active.

Another active autumn day in the woods with a surprise call from ITV Border News who came to film us (on tonight @6pm on ITV Border News - 'Look Around'). Fabulous dens were made with super teamwork. Knots were learnt, fires made, marshmallows toasted and corn popped, arrows fired, and mud recipes imagined amongst many other fun activities.

NEWSFLASH! This morning we had ITV Border News come and film us at our holiday club. We will be on the ITV Border News from 6pm tonight (probably later in the programme) in their 'Look Around' show.

A busy session today with lots of children searching the woodland to find Julian who was hiding in the game 'sardines'. S'mores were made and enjoyed as was our yummy hot chocolate. Some great dens were made. Other activities included pond dipping, fire lighting, crafts, soft archery, clay modelling and more. We even had our own mud monster!

We had a great time exploring the woodland which was full of autumnal colours. A beautiful leaf star was made and different leaves were identified and collected in our leaf bags. Of course we played 'Green Man' and had the opportunity to make our own fires. Pond dipping was very popular, as were the hammocks. Garlic bread was made, baked in the dutch oven and enjoyed around the camp fire. Peelers were safely used to whittle sticks. The development of the old shed was welcomed - especially with the cosy log burner in it! We're lloking forward to more fun in the rest of the week. There are still spaces available on Thursday and Friday if you wish to book.

We had a super time on Saturday morning providing a birthday party for a young lad and his friends. His Mum messaged us the following... 'I just wanted to say thank you again for the most incredible party for our son. He had an amazing time, as did all that came along and the adults too. The job you both do is just wonderful and you gave the children a truly fantastic morning in the forest, letting them be children and free. Our son didn’t stop smiling and everyone has been messaging to say how much their children enjoyed the party. A local Brownie group had a super time in our woods last night playing games, drinking hot chocolate and learning how to make a fire so they could toast marshmallows whilst singing camp fire songs. Contact us if your child's Brownie group is interested in similar activities.

Lots of families had fun together in the woods playing hide and seek games, developing uses of other senses than just their sight, pond dipping, archery, whittling, fire lighting and much more. We're looking forward to our next Saturday family session in Novemeber. Dates will be published soon.

HALF TERM HOLIDAY CLUB After finishing a great summer holiday, we are now taking bookings for our October half term club.
The sessions will run between 10am and 3pm on Monday 22nd to Friday 26th October.
... Each session is £20 per child with each additional sibling being an additional £15.
Children will require a packed lunch (no nut products please), waterproofs and hat / gloves. Waterproof trousers as well as a waterproof jacket are highly recommended for the children to get the most out of each session, regardless of the weather. A change of clothes is also advisable.
Whilst we do require a minimum of 6 children to run a session, we have known sessions to be over-subscribed, so booking is essential as places are limited to 20 children. Please note that in line with our cancellation policy, a minimum of 48 hours is required to cancel a booking, otherwise full payment will still be expected.

What an amazing place for children and adults. Teaching children valuable life lessons through forest play. Experienced teachers Julian and Claire were truly professional. My children would like to attend forest school full time. I highly recommend Stocks Wood and hope as many children as possible get to experience this magical place.

We loved it!!!! Fun, friendly and outside. Julian and Claire were wonderful hosts plying us with delicious hot chocolate and vegetarian marshmallows. The kids were free to explore and learn to light fires and splash in the muddy puddles. what a great day out- my daughter didn't want to leave.

We celebrated our daughter’s birthday at Stocks Wood. Everybody had a fantastic time and we can highly recommend it. Julian and Claire had decorated the place beautifully. There were balloons and birthday banners. The children played games, had a great BBQ and played more games. They were lighting fires, did wood threading, pond dipping and played in the mud kitchen. The food was excellent and there was plenty of it; all prepared by Claire and Julian. Even the weather played ball, no rain and sunny spells. We all had a fantastic day! Thank you very much!

Julian Earle used to teach at our son's school in Moseley and he ran the Forrest school there. George absolutely loved it and still loves it even though Julian is no longer there. Well worth going and getting back to nature.

Had a pleased and muddy boy delivered back with nothing but enthusiasm so top marks!
