Strathearn Artspace - Scio Sc 044319 Description

Our Vision

To produce a self-sustaining arts centre that will invigorate the Strathearn art scene and its creativity throughout the area.

To promote inclusion of all potential client groups.

To attract creative people into the area, who will in turn encourage and build new businesses in the town, which will in turn bring in revenue and activities.

Creativity

Creativity is the core focus of our proposal. We will show creativity, innovation and consummate problem solving throughout our development of this project.

Ultimately, over a four year period, the centre will house theatre, music, and comedy performances, visual art workshops, art exhibitions, and conference and meeting facilities.

We anticipate the centre will be a magnet, attracting a diverse range of creative people into the area who in turn may seek to open new businesses in the town, with potential revenue streams for Crieff.

Location

Ideally the arts centre will be close to the town centre so as to maximise visibility and accessibility and thereby encourage interest from both the local community and visitors to the town.

We believe the former municipal library would be the ideal location. It is in the heart of the town; it has great internal space and was formerly a focus for the community. In addition the building is close to car parking facilities and three major banks with ATM’s plus there is excellent disabled access from street level.

We expect the building to be of significant benefit to Crieff and Strathearn and once again draw people into the town centre.

Business Objectives

The fundamental business objective of our proposal is to offer a unique asset for this area and it’s community, to enhance the creative provision for a broad range of groups and ages. Also we hope to create direct employment for local people and stimulate additional enterprises in the town and areas further a field.

Key Activities

1 / Teaching of various recreational and further educational visual arts classes (introductory drawing and painting, beginners oil painting, watercolour painting, life drawing, ceramic sculpture, pottery, printmaking, introductory jewellery classes, animal illustration and portfolio preparation etc). This would include outreach teaching projects to groups of all ages and social demographics. When not in use, the teaching room would be hired out to other local creative classes and groups in our community.

2 / A vibrant exhibition space for cutting edge accessible contemporary art and art with a local focus. In addition we intend to have at least one local history project display per year.

3 / Cinema facilities that will show main stream and art house films several times a week. We will also hold regular weekend genre film festivals (romantic, thriller, horror etc).

4 / Auditorium A flexible space for visiting lecturers (i. e. high profile artists, visual, literary and theatrical) & film viewing area (digital projector with suitable sound etc). This space will be easily converted into a meeting area with 10 tables seating up to 60 people. With this flexibility the auditorium will have many potential income streams.

5 / Art materials shop for local artists who presently have to travel to Perth, Edinburgh or Glasgow for art supplies.

6 / Digital imaging suite. (Apple Mac & PC Format with ink jet and Giclee printing) Regular training to go with access to the suite.

7 / Drop in discussion area for artists, lounge area for idea exchange etc.

8 / Quality affordable studio space for local artists, particularly young artists who currently struggle to find suitable space to work in.

9 / Conference facilities for up to 100 delegates with full presentation facilities, catering and break out rooms. Wi-Fi broadband facilities through out the building which can be connected to digital projectors.

Were you an extra on Chariots of Fire when they filmed in the Sma' Glen and at Fowlis Wester back in the early 80s? To celebrate our own local athletic prowess at Crieff Highland Games we're showing this classic film at 3pm and 7.30pm on Saturday 17 August. We'd love to make it a reunion for anyone who was part of the film (even if you ended up on the cutting room floor)! So get under starter's orders and send us a message.
