Summerside Kindergarten

We provide a small, friendly, reliable service on which the parents who entrusted us to care for their children could depend.

Much of our success is due to us having been able to create an ethos and environment that is not only beneficial to our pupils but has contributed to us enjoying staff retention perhaps unequalled in the care sector. Many of our staff joined us straight from school and have been trained by our own experienced senior staff ensuring that each member meets Summerside Kindergarten’s exacting standards at every stage of their career. Additionally, our staff have gone on to achieve excellence in external professional examination and scrutiny. All our staff are required to undertake continuous career development and further study to achieve appropriate qualifications not only in childcare but in many and various complimentary subjects that make our centre the very best it can be.

Summerside Kindergarten staff work tirelessly to maintain and improve standards in the Pre School education we provide and wholly embrace the requirements of the Curriculum for Excellence and totally subscribe to GIRFEC (Getting It Right For Every Child) and first time every time. Staff also have skills in Additional Support for Learning and the physical support and different communication needs some children may require.

We are a strong, well-led team of professionals in Pre School care and education but most importantly we really care for our children and show this on a continuous basis throughout every minute of the day. This could be on a local outing to the shops or library, or on a working party to our allotment where our resident horticulturalist spends a great deal of her time down on her knees eye-to-eye with her small charges, showing and involving them in a little bit of the natural world that may well remain with them through into adulthood.

None of what we achieve for the children would be as successful if it wasn’t for the wonderful support and involvement we are delighted to have from the parents and a few grandparents. Parents suggest much of what we go on to adopt as policy or improvement to our service and they often do this through our annual Service User Satisfaction Questionnaire (SUSQ) in which they score many elements of our service. The analysis of the SUSQ returns indicates the high level of satisfaction we achieve and ensures we are never complacent and our need to keep on striving for continuing excellence in childcare.
