Water safety and Swimming Lessons for Children of all abilities

Swimschooldundee Description

We are a swim school based in both Dundee and St Andrews providing high quality swimming lessons which are tailored to individual needs.
Swim School Dundee was initially established in April 2011 by Rory Hewitt to provide high quality swimming lessons at reasonable prices in Dundee. In September 2011, the swim school incorporated Swim Academy St. Andrews. Rory has over 25 years teaching and coaching experience at all levels and is committed to teaching. Rory attends all classes and is always available to parents for progression, guidance and feedback on their children within the lessons programme.

Swim School Dundee's aim is to provide comprehensive swimming lessons in Dundee and St. Andrews at every level for Children and Adult's of all abilities and disabilities.
The learn to swim programme has been developed to incorporate all key stages from fun and play, water safety and the development of the 4 competitive swimming strokes.

Childrens Group Lessons
Swim School Dundee teach children from aged 3 years up in our group setting. We believe that children should learn through fun and games in the water whilst developing their technique, skills and stamina. We feel that children develop their skills quicker when the teacher is in the pool and the group is a small class. Our beginners 1 & 2 classes are at a ratio of 4 swimmers to 1 teacher and 1 helper. As our teachers are in the pool with beginners through to our improver, this is to promote swimmer confidence, ensure safety and to demonstrate correct technique at an early stage. Having out teachers in the pool also increases the safety aspect during our lessons.

Following the 8 stages of Scottish swimming's learn to swim programme.
During stages 1 - 4 the the swimmers gradually through all 4 swimming strokes: Frontcrawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Keeping class sizes to 4 this gives the teacher more time with each swimmer in addition we have a roaming teacher /helper in the pool to give anyone that is in need of a little extra help.

During stages 5 & 6 we increase the distance to build up strength, stamina and confidence of the swimmers prior to moving up to lengths

During stages 7 & 8 we fine tune the 4 strokes over lengths of the pool, the class size increases to 6 to 1 teacher.

Adult Group Lessons.
Group lesson are available in Dundee on Monday evening and a Wednesday evening, these are for all levels and there is a maximum of 8 during the classes, giving a low ratio of teachers to swimmers.

One to One.
This is available for children from pre -school(3 years plus) through to Adults of all abilities and disabilities and are carried out by Rory.

All our Teachers have been trained to the highest level, either attaining ASA or UKCC qualifications. Lifeguards are NPLQ Lifegaurd qualified and are all PVC checked.

PARENTS AND CARERS

There will be an opportunity for parents to see their children on the last week of every term as we understand that parents like to see their child's progression.

CHANGING ROOMS
Children are permitted into the changing rooms of the opposite sex up to the child’s 8th birthday.
The only exception will be where the child of the opposite sex has a disability and permission has
been granted by Swim School Dundee.

ILLNESS
Please do not bring your child to a lesson if they have an infectious illness. If the child has had a sickness or diarrhea bug, they must be clear for 48 hours before entering the water. This also applies to eye infections. These infections are easily transferred through the water and it is unfair and irresponsible to put other pool users at risk.
If a child has developed an illness that can / will cause long-term absence, please contact Rory in the first instance.

ASSESSMENTS
Swimmers will progress through the levels in the Learn to Swim programme at any age, provided they meet the assessable criteria. The assessment occurs when a swimmer is new to the Learn to Swim programme and at the end of each term. To progress, they must meet the criteria outlined in the level they are working on. This is done informally throughout the term.
