The Pipes and Drums are an important part of the unit, representing Tayforth Universities Officers Training Corps by playing at various events. These include parades and performances at some of the units own functions, as well as joining the rest of the Scottish UOTC's Pipes and Drums for international events, such as the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Lorient Festival in France, British Military Tournament in London and the Spasskaya Tower Military Tattoo in Moscow.

Currently we have one competition a year, Exercise Northern Lights, where the four UOTC Pipes and Drums compete against each other in mini-band and solo events to win points towards winning the coveted Northern Lights Trophy for their unit.
There are opportunities to attend TA Piping and Drumming Courses and to become involved in instructing at ACF Piping and Drumming Courses.

The Pipes and Drums are based at B Sqn, in Dundee, but include members from A Sqn, in St Andrews and C company in Stirling. Band practice takes place on Thursday nights at Park Wynd and on some weekends throughout the academic year. All pipers and drummers from the universities of St Andrews, Dundee, Stirling and Abertay are welcome to come along and see if they would like to join.
