We are an Animal Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Centre near Broadwindsor, Dorset & provide Forever homes to domestic, small farm and Special Needs Dogs.
The Birkett-Smith Animal Sanctuary Reg Charity No 1152016 Description
I started the Birkett - Smith Animal Sanctuary a couple of years ago on my smallholding in Dorset and formalised as a registered Charity not long after.
We provide forever homes for domestic, farm and wildlife animals. Most have behavioural issues, are aggressive s, old, disabled, human scared . . . so we basically take the animals that stand little or no chance or gaining homes let alone the security of a forever home.
So our 150 animals include dogs, cats, pigs, sheep, horses, all farm birds, emus, a seagull. . . the list goes on. We are also one of the very few UK sanctuaries that will take aggressive and fear aggressive dogs as we have a no kill policy full stop. We rehabilitate these animals as much as we can over time to enable them to achieve a happy life here at the sanctuary or if possible, a forever home.
Due to the nature of the animals we have their care can be intensive, and timely and very costly.
All this takes time, money, volunteers and without our Birkett - Smith Family this would not be possible. So please join us with our auctions and projects as slowly one by one we will take in animals to safety . . . . . . . one by one until there are none. xxx

Dogs have the most amazing ability to recover but it takes time, a safe house, a home and all the affection that comes with it......
We know of course that every single penny counts to you as well as to us but there are ways you can help us which cost you NOTHING extra and only take minutes to set up.
We are usually the last port of call and hope for the dogs that come to us. When everything else has been tried we are a lifeline that can help with so many issues including the usual every day ones through to multi level deep rooted behaviours.
Nearly there :) Just 14 numbers left....only £3.50 for a shot at one of two first prizes!
Posting this for public record as we are now receiving threats: Rescue contacts us as they have a Carpathian dog in foster who is fear reactive. We agree to take the dog and rescue books said dog into rehab with us.We further agree to fast track the dog in. Rescue books transport for today. Meanwhile fosters seek local behaviourist advice and book dog into 2 month electric prong collar "rehab programme" against rescues wishes. As arranged and agreed with rescue, transport arrives to bring the dog to us but fosters refuse to let the dog go.The police attend but can't get the dog released. We have done all we can do, spending hours of valuable time trying to prevent this dog suffering such treatment and we would like to make it clear that WE DO NOT CONDONE SHOCK THERAPY OR THE USE OF SHOCK OR PRONG COLLARS THEY ARE BARBARIC.
