Really good beers and whisky. The staff were highly knowledgeable about their products and went out of their way to make your visit an exceptional one. The place is done out in a shabby chique way and it really works for it. They also host a range of events throughout the year which I believe are very popular.

Such a nice place. Great ambient and good music. 30p extra charge for paying with card, seriously?

Great beer, Ok wine, great whiskey selection. Comfortable atmosphere with friendly staff. Will visit again in future.

Really great atmosphere. Went with a small group of friends but would be perfect for a date. The drinks are really reasonable priced for how central the bar is.

Nice live music, great beers and great choice of gins.
You have to be lucky to get a table outside on a sunny afternoon, but once you got one you won't leave until the sun is gone and you're f***ed up. LOL

The music (currently 9.30 - closing M, W & Th nights & especially Su lunch), which is unamplified, draws in a convivial mix of visitors and locals.

Scotland has amazing young traditional players and in Edinburgh this is surely one of the very best places to experience their art in an informal setting

The young and very knowledgeable bar staff will talk you through the tasting notes of the hundreds in display.

There is also gluten free beer on tap, which may be some indication of The Black Cat's Transatlantic appeal(!).

Highly, highly recommended.

Found The Black Cat by accident during a walk around Edinburgh a very rustic designed pub friendly atmosphere and staff good selection of ales and huge selection of whiskies well worth a visit when in Edinburgh.

Wandered into this place after a long day of discovering Edinburgh. From the outside it just looked like an average, newer pub. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the drinks on tap AND I was even happier after discovering their "whisky bible" which gave a brief description of all the distilleries and the whisky's they offered. Would highly recommend coming here if anyone is looking for good whisky at decent prices!
