The Buchanan Institute

About The Buchanan Institute

The Buchanan Institute provides students from various political orientations with the ability to develop and implement policies that will solve real world problems.

The Buchanan Institute Description

What kind of society would you like to live in? What would you change? And how can we make it happen?

The Buchanan Institute provides you with the resources and guidance to research and develop solutions to issues faced today.

The Buchanan Institute is a think tank based within the University of Edinburgh. We exist to facilitate solution oriented discussion, research, communication & design. The primary focus of the Institute is to give students the opportunity to come together and consider the problems we are facing today. The Buchanan Institute is uniquely positioned in that we strive to make real changes in the world around us. This might come about from issuing a policy proposal or call for evidence to government, MPs, local councils etc. ; increasing societal awareness of an issue; and developing technological solutions to a problem.

Our approach involves:
1. Rigorously researching an issue to identify causative and contributing factors.
2. Innovating solutions through discussion, critical analysis and creativity.
3. Implementing solutions through outreach and collaboration with partners.

The Buchanan Institute is for everyone. Our aim is to have all 30, 000 students at Edinburgh, every single one, involved. Everyone cares about the world we live in, whether it is right here in your community or overseas. Everyone also has something to say about our future and the directions we should take. You don't need any prior knowledge, just bring yourselves, your enthusiasm, an open mind and your own experiences.
