Aww, thank you Fountain Court Apartments - we do love all the dugs that come here. Apologies to their humans for usually prioritising the furry pals when it comes to service, but let’s be honest, they tend to be a lot cuter & give cuddles for treats 🐕🐶😍

Now pouring Divergence Pilsner from Natural Selection Brewing Project - Czech style Pilsner brewed with Polish hops: light, refreshing with a nice floral finish and at 4.5% ABV it’s perfect choice for summer. We are proud to have one of our own bar team - Cam - to be the brewer on this year’s project. Pop in if you wanna sample it and have him talk you through it. Please do, we have been stuck listening to him going on about it for most of the year 😆😆😆

We have spent only few days in Ediburgh and The Caley was right next door from our flat. We went there to taste the Scottish breakfast. And we were not dissapointed. It was a completely new experience for us and I'm glad that it was so nice. The staff was very friendly and very quickly. Thank you for such a nice experience and memories.

User

Spacious modern and clean without feeling like a superpub. I can't think of another beer that has suited me as much as Ossian, great pint. Staff were v attentive and great. Deal winner is that they leave dogs in and even have a menu for them!! Only, downside is that it was not as warm in there as I would have hoped.

User

My daughter and I dined there last night. We had the cheeseburger meal and crab linguine with red pepper flakes. No complaints wait staff was amazing. ❤️

User

Just moved round the corner from Caley Sample Room and have been twice - a drink one evening and Sunday lunch. Staff, atmosphere, food and drinks all excellent - particularly the friendly and hardworking staff. It instantly feels like a good local.

User

Just had an amazing meal in here. My steak was cooked to perfection, our daughter loved her fish and chips and my hubby said it was the best burger he’d ever had - and he’s had 1000’s!

Very attentive staff and great atmosphere in the place. Great end to a brilliant week in Scotland. Thank you very much.x

User

Great selection of cask beers, didn't try the food but the menu had interesting choices. Dog friendly in the bar area.

User

Great atmosphere, people, service, food, meals, prices, friendliness, kindness, helpfulness, I could go on... long story short, you will not be disappointed! We all LOVED it!

User

Friendly staff and great food , huge meals so really for the hungry, the largest onion rings I have seen

User

Fabulous! Love the place! Sometimes a little short on staff, which led to some service issues! The Staff are amazing the food outstanding, prices very good! Cheers from Victoria, BC ,

User

Enjoyed the meal very much. It could be a bit brighter as I like to see what I eat as well. Staff were very friendly. The two that served us had only been with them for two days so did well.

User

Initially we were seated in a booth and the music was so loud I couldn't hear what the waitress was saying. In fairness, ours was a last minute booking so they'd clearly tried to accommodate us which was great. The staff were helpful and friendly and it was the waitress who notice we were struggling with the noise levels and suggested a move, so all good. The food was just as described in the menu and was delicious. The table we were moved to was a wee bit draughty as it was just to the right of the entrance and, as a dog friendly bar, whilst we were eating a dog arrived (accompanying its human of course) and sat just opposite so if you are dog averse or just don't like them sniffing appreciatively and looking longingly at you whilst you are eating you might want to bear this in mind. Overall, good service, friendly staff and great food. L x

I remember this when it was a garage and then as a haunt of teachers when it was The Blue Lagoon. Now a couple of reincarnations later as the Caley Sample Room, latest refurbishment may not please all, but I like it. Brick wall on the east side is great. High wooden tables catering for busy times OK, but I liked the odd selection of leather sofas and low tables. Bar now has hooks reinstalled . Toilets refurbished, I like the keg barrels as pissoirs but I can guarantee that dozy drunks will still manage to miss despite having a good 2 feet to aim at.No water pressure when I visited so washing hands took forever.

Biggest minus point is the crap music (IMO) who the fuck likes "Dancing on glass" by St Lucia or "Shuffle" by Bombay Cycle Club. Change the music guys.

User

Food is top notch as it always has been and is presented very well Supper club is still great value for money but since the new management takeover a few weeks ago the wine range has gone from astoundingly good to awful Also have to wait ages to get served a beer at the dining table Would be far quicker going to the bar £4.35 for a guiness though? Come on this isn;t George St !!!

User

Ok, busy as it was game day. No Caledonian beer, what I had was a nice alternative. But I'm sorry, food prices are ridiculous as are their prices for everything else. Highlighted on the board was a £24 bottle of wine ("£6 off!!") which would be at the most £7 in the shops. Yes I understand mark up (worked in the trade) but that's nonsense. Next time I'll get a pint and a pie in the Diggers. Cater for all that come in people...not just hipsters!

User

Food was nice, our server was great, very friendly and helpful. The children's menu is however very limited for lunch with children. We were in for brunch so asked for beans on toast for our toddler. It was £5.50 for a few beans on toast (£4) and an espresso cup full of hot milk (£1.50).

User

Love going for a beer but never had a good experience dining. Food is decent enough, although the menu rarely changes, but waiting staff have been consistently terrible over the 4 years I’ve been. A pattern like that suggests management/training just isn’t taken seriously, not just one or two bad staff.

User

Lost its way. Mediocre dining at best. It comes to something when you have to send back puff pastry because it hasn't risen, is burnt and has the bite of cardboard. Duff pastry, I'd say. Mum and I have eaten here at least 100 times in the last 3 or 4 years. It's such a shame when a 91 yr old says "it's no' as good as it used to be, eh."

User

I usually enjoy going to the Sample Rooms food, beer and atmosphere were really good. But when a Hearts game is on they have only a couple of staff on behind the bar which means it takes a while to get served at the bar. This Sunday ONE person serving behind the bar very poor service ( not the Bar mans fault), we left for another pub where the service was excellent...

Music on a Friday and Saturday night is techno and very loud, not to everyone’s taste.

I enjoyed eating here in the past as the food is good but the music has changed that.

Going the right way to loose valuable clients.

User

The service we received yesterday was dreadful .Having booked vouchers and booked the table well in advance stating we had vouchers , we were told there was no house red wine available , offered no alternative other than juice and were made to feel very cheap for having the vouchers .

The manager was rude and extremely unhelpful and we could hear other customers complaining about the same thing .

If you do a voucher deal you must be prepared and you certainly need a better customer care policy as the whole charade was embarrassing for us and it ruined our day .

Would never return and will be emailing itison to have our vouchers refunded .
