What's new pussycat? It's not unusual to want to slip into Devil's for a knicker dropping Tom Collins before seeing the man himself in the Gardens this evening. You can even leave your hat on.

Whisky...or a cocktail...decisions, decisions. Just take both. Whether a classic or one of our seasonal whisky cocktail specials, indulge in all manner of delights with us Devils.

User

It’s time for another “Guess That Whisky Label”. We have loads of internet points to give away folks so start guessing.

User

We're hiring! We're looking for passionate people to join our energetic team both in front of house and behind the bar. Experience at a fast pace is essential and a knowledge for whisky and a thirst to drink more is certainly advantageous. Please email your CV to info@devilsadvocateedinburgh.co.uk.< br>

This is definitely not to be missed .
For one night only the team from Baba Au Rum (World's 50 Best Bars) will be gracing themselves behind the bar at The Bon Vivant. From 7pm till late, both teams will be shaking, stirring and striking up plenty of chat!
Kindly sponsored by Stephen Martin, this promises to be a night of world class cocktails.

To launch our new flight “The Unpronouncables” we have done a small profile of each of the whiskies in the flight. (4/4)
Kilchoman Machir Bay (Kill-ho-man, Mah-Keer)
Kilchoman overlooks Machir bay on the west coast of Islay. The lands were gifted by the Lords of the Isles to their physicians the MacBeatha family who had arrived from Ireland in 1300, possibly bringing the secrets of distilling along with them.
... Although the distillery was only built in 2005 with the first run of spirit coming off the stills later that year, it's in the experienced hands of John McLellan former distillery manager of Bunnahabhain (Bun-na-ha-ven)
70% ex-Bourbon casks and 30% ex-Sherry this is viscous, sweet, salty, earthy, smokey, and frankly delicious, they're the new kids in town but they're reminding us all why we love the classic Islay style.

Bruichladdich Islay Barley (Brook-Laddy, Eye-lah)
Bruichladdich “The bank of the shore” is proof that the whisky regions have more exceptions than adherents. Built in 1881 when coal was available as an alternative fuel to local peat, this unpeated Islay malt distilled in 2010 from barley grown by 8 family farms on the remote island.
... It was filled into ex-Bourbon and French wine casks making it creamy and sweet and matured in a warehouse by Loch Indaal adding that savoury sea salt. Salted creamery butter, but maybe better for your waistline when consumed by the glass.

GlenGarioch 12yo (Glen-Gear-y)
GlenGarioch “Glen of the rough ground,” currently the most easterly distillery in Scotland, can be found in the historic market town of Oldmeldrum. The distillery’s official founding date of 1797 makes it one of the oldest too.
... The distillery has struggled in the past with a reliable water source, once recruiting a water diviner known as "the Water Mannie o' Foggieloan" who spoke with so thick an accent that even the locals struggled to understand him - nevermind the person who had to translate for the distilleries Japanese owners.
Peaches, malt, and vanilla on the nose, medium bodied and a drying finish loosens the tongue to aid pronunciation.

Auchentoshan Three Wood (Ock-en-Taw-shen)
Auchentoshan “Corner of the field” is unusual for a couple of reasons, it’s a lowland distillery just outside Glasgow but draws its water from Loch Katrine some 6 miles away in the highlands. It triple distils too, one of the few Scottish distilleries to do so.
... The Three Wood spends 10 years in ex-Bourbon casks then 1 year each in ex-Olorosso, and ex- Pedro Ximenez sherry casks giving it a light bodied but juicy character.

All this week we will be celebrating King's Day with this fruity little number. Super smashable. Strong notes of deliciousness with a disappointing finish because you wish there was more of it.

User

Thanks for the Morning in Macau Cocktail experience ! Great location

User

Run, don’t walk, to this spot. The food is absolutely spectacular and in a really casual, fun, unique setting.

User

Plenty of whiskey to choose from. A complete mystery to an English lager drinker like me! But staff are knowledgeable on what they sell and a few questions and you’ll find something you like.

Food was pricey but very high quality so you get what you pay for!

Highly recommended.

User

Lovely place, very well hidden, we wouldn’t have thought of going down the narrow stepped alley had we not been told about the place. Great look and atmosphere, approx 300 types of whiskey, amazing burgers and you have to try the moccachino stout

User

Loved the atmosphere and location. Our enabler (waiter) was very helpful and led us through the menu. I had the fried polenta with cheddar cheese, wilted greens and a poached egg...it was delicious. My niece had the ox cheek and it was fall off the fork tender. Great wine selection as well as whiskies. I’ll be back...but not soon enough!

User

Loved it! Great food, amazing staff and fun atmosphere.

User

Just the best, don’t go to Scotland without swinging in here.

User

It was fantastic. We really liked it. So glad we went. The staff were so friendly. Our 1st time to edinburgh,we hadnt booked, but we got a table within half hr. We waited at the bar, where the barman was so helpful. I dont like whisky, but the guy made me1 and it was good. The steak was the best. Would definately go back when up in scotland again.

Dropped in for a quick drink on a Saturday night because the menu sounded cool. Staff were friendly and fast even though it was slammed. They were fully booked but managed to get us a table sorted.

The drinks were fantastic and the menu is really engaging.

Big up

User

User

A girlfriend and I visited Edinburgh and for me with a secondary agenda... To learn to drink whiskey with extremely kind and knowledgeable bartenders mission was completed.

The bar is rustic and absolutely hyggelig.

I would recommend to everybody!!!

User

Really great bar well worth a visit

User

Lovely Valentine’s Day meal - my steak was cooked to perfection. Drinks rather expensive though!

User

Great atmosphere and very good food, what would make it better, would be some more vegetarian and fish choices. Saying that, what had was very good. Thanks for a great night. PS My thanks to the bartender who pulled the music mix together, he has a good ear for music :-) Ill be back the next time we visit Edinburgh.

User

Lovely staff and atmosphere, lighting for early afternoon was a bit too dark, struggled to see plate ... Food was fine, not amazing.

User

Told a table would be 20min three times while waiting in single digit temps on balcony. Good drinks, nice staff, but fess up about the likelihood of getting fed. Left and went elsewhere...

User

The waitress was very impolite and forced us to quit the place in litterally 2 minutes when we still had drinks in our glass

And some other people were simply finishing their drinks and she didn t say anything (probably because the were older than us)

Its not because the place is great and the drinks are good that you can act this way

User

Had dinner with good freinds at this establishment on Saturday night a few weeks ago . The food was great taste wise but very small portions and my first drink came in a warm glass ! Murder barman !! He did change it with cold glass after telling me it had come from the glass washer ??.

We were placed up on the mezzanine floor above the bar and our table was lite with a small candle, and to read the menus the candle was duly aided by a iphone6 torch. Cramped into a sardine box area we awaited our starters I had the smallest bowl of Cullen’s skink I’ve ever been presented and although very tasty it was indeed inadequate. This was followed up by a cod main course and to be honest whilst tasty the piece of cod could be matched with two birds eye fish fingers. Moving onto desert well no , let’s not go into it , all in all won’t be back. Ps This report supersedes my previous smaller review.

User

Great place and great drinks but the waitress forced us to go even if we haven’t finished our drinks in a very impolite way.

It’s really disappointing and she did this while other people were sitting at the bar finishing their drinks and said nothing to them.

User

Sell me a bottle of wine 30 min before closing and after I pay won't allow me to cork it. Then talk shit about me behind bar. First impression of Edinburgh. This bar is lame
