The Earl Of Beaconsfield Description

The Earl of Beaconsfield is one of the most distinctive landmarks on Mill Road in Cambridge. It is now run by Rob Cook and his cracking team, and features five outstanding real ales, a range of refreshing draft lagers, craft lagers & ciders, and a choice of quality wines alongside the wonderful Guinness that the pub is still justifiably famous for.

Happy to announce we are now showing all games on BT sport.

User

Really sorry folks, but we'll be closing at 6pm today (Boxing Day) due to staff illness (that's a stinking cold, btw, not a hangover!). p.s. hope everyone had a cracking Christmas

User

In other news, there's a different, more festive plan for tomorrow night’s Jam Sandwich. Get the details at https://www.facebook.com/events/318786782 062727/

Which brings me nicely onto Part 2: What’s happening with the pub?
Inevitably contracts have yet to be signed, so there’s a very small chance things could still change, but it looks like the new landlord will be an extremely nice chap called Rob Cook. He’s been in the business for a long time, and he knows the area (and probably quite a few of you guys) really well, but this is his first own pub. Everything will be staying as it is, with inevitable tweaking over time. All the current crew are staying on, and Smoky, Scampi & I have the ok to visit whenever we like. One thing to point out - the pub’s Facebook page will probably change as we’ve figured out that’s the simplest approach. As and when that happens I’ll post up directions to it.

User

We’ve been Facebook-Quiet for a while, so here’s a little mini raft of posts to make up for it!
Part 1: Holiday Opening Hours
As usual we’ll be open 12-3pm on Christmas Day, but this year we’ll be open 1pm-midnight on Boxing Day, and then normal up until New Year’s Eve when we’re open till 1.30am (if we can still cope!). Then we’re going to be closed Jan 1, Jan 2, and Jan 3 till 6pm (open in time for Beaky PluggedIn). That’s so we can get some redecorating done…

User

Yep, it's an annual thing now. DJs Ru and Matt will be helping us see in 2019 with indie, punk, disco, 90s dance hits and whatever else takes their fancy.
Should be a blast!
We'll be starting at about 8pm, and as always, it's free.

User

Frankly, we're not sure what to expect from Harri, Tom & friends, but we know it'll be a brilliant laugh. Down tools and come and join us...

The truly talented and always astonishing RCubed are back again – a vocal led 5-piece jaz band, playing both standards and contemporary numbers with some original arrangements.
They say: "Performing an eclectic and colourful mix of jazz, blues, soul and funk, expect tunes from Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Nancy Wilson, Ray Charles, Freddie Hubbard, Gil Scott-heron, Robert Glasper, José James, Dianne Reeves, Jackson 5, George Michael, and Emile Sande."

User

A terrific, upbeat, southern-UK-inspired fusion of rock 'n' roll with funk, soul and blues. The whole band are hugely experienced and regulars at our jams. Always a cracking night.

User

We're not going quietly into Winter Fair night this year. The truly talented Flint Moore are back for a final time in 2018, with their heady mix of alt-rock, foik and grunge.
Winners of last year's Cambridge Band Competition, they blow us away every time they play here, and are building up a real following. Apart from being a bunch of very lovely and highly professional musicians, their sound is - frankly - epic. They describe it as made up of many different influences, from Mumford and Sons, Queens of the Stone Age, Imogen Heap, Tool, Radiohead, Florence and the Machine, the Gorillaz, and something else that's pop too.

User

We're delighted to welcome back the very lovely and very talented Rich Young.
Expect original acoustic-based rock/Americana/roots and some oddball covers from a guitarist/pianist/harmonica player who's worked with everyone from Dave Stewart to Loudon Wainright II to Nigel Kennedy. Always wonderful.

User

Special friday treat: Indie punk disco-y-ness and an always-fab vibe.

User

Delighted to have them back. They'll be playing songs from their albums 'Underground' and 'Rarer Gifts' plus songs from the album long in the making, and some choice covers from Matthew Sweet to The Byrds to Zep to Nada Surf... all sorts really... 8.30 start.

User

it's been a very long time since I felt like a person in a pub, other pubs nowadays treat you like a wallet that they have to empty

User

im from the states, but this is the best pub that i have ever been to in my 5 week stay and tour in the UK. All the staff are friendly, interesting people and I'm a big fan of their selection of Ales. (Try the mosaic. It's peng.) It's also fairly well priced. The two dogs there are really funny and all the open mic, blues, and acoustic nights are loads of fun. Also there's a cool library and billiards table in the back which are great for warmer nights. This is a pub that just keeps on giving.

User

Top pub, lovely people, great atmosphere and big supporter of the local community. A Romsey treasure!

User

The music sessions are absolutely fantastic, great atmosphere & real ales too.

User

Splendid venue. Great service, delicious beer, live music !Whats not to like.

User

Really liked this pub, there were a large group of us so we went down to the games room where there was a bar billiards table, nice pint of Ghost Ship too!!

User

Quality pub and Doom Bar on tap! Good prices too and friendly bar staff.

User

Pub perfection! The atmosphere is the best you will find in Cambridge and the live music acts are brilliant. Would recommend to anybody!

User

Lovely, welcoming pub! Quickly became my local. Staff and regulars very rarely bite, dogs never!

User

Lovely pub. Friendly staff. Good selection of drinks. Would recommend.

User

Live music!!!! What else???? Nice staff and a good prices. Beautiful people and lovely dogs.

User

Just a great pub. Even the regular customers are nice..

User

Have just launched the Earl Open Mic Marauders club. The objective will be to give performers and people who like to watch and listen an organised way to visit all the open mics in the area! I will be putting together a Facebook group so I can invite members to a different venue most week (excluding Thursdays because while we are seeing the rest we will continue going to the best) So friend me if you want to be in the group (I'm the Terry Ide with the leather hat standing in front of a huge snow mobile) First venue The Liquor Lounge this Monday 5th Feb

User

Great community pub, 2x mad spaniels and landlady... Live music every week too!

User

Fine beer, friendly staff & an excellent venue for music. What's not to like?

User

Dropped by for the Jam night last night.... Great atmosphere and great beer...The jam was good too :-)

User

very nice and pleasant pub with good sports screens and people where friendly

User

Great place, (regular talking...), not for the quietly Challenged, can be very quiet during most days of the week. Except your average Friday & Saturday nights, making this venue ram packed, queue at the bar, queue at the loo, 10:30 smoking garden closes.

This bar has such a crowd, weekends provide a welcome sight for flourishing local businesses. Like Wetherspoons, the earl of beaconsfield provides that much needed, value for money approach.

Customers agree! You can’t get to the bar on Saturdays, without a wrestle.

Staff are great and the building as a whole is welcoming. Great for Sunday afternoon.

However if you like to drink louder than your average joe, and like to have a good time on a Friday afternoon. Not your gaff.

Recommended for the best frozen pizzas, good customer service, volume respecting venue, and Wednesday, because beer on Wednesday isn’t close to £5 a pint.

User

To be turned away without warning for singing 3 lions on a World Cup match day is a disgrace. I’m extremely embarrassed to say I used this pub for some time but I will no longer do so. What an utter disgrace. I suggest anyone looking for international football look for either the empress or the swan
