Apart from being know for the birth place of the Harry Potter series they should be known for their Delicious gluten free baked goodies! Amazing atmosphere and great service! 😍
Also if you get a good seat, you’ll get a great view of the Edinburgh castle!!

Thought it would be cool to go as we are visiting Edinburgh and it's well known. The wait is long, the coffee is average at best, the cake is good but the service wasn't the best. The waiter spilled one of the coffees and instead of apologising at first he briskly took everything away in a rush and started clearing up, we had to ask for tissue to wipe down the hat the coffee had spilled on and then it took 2 other members of staff to complete the order and even then we had to get up and ask for cutlery. All in all not worth the 20 minute wait.

I brought my two little cousins here a little while ago and, despite not knowing what Harry Potter was exactly, we all enjoyed good food and a nice lunch!
As a Harry Potter fan, I loved the history it had.
Can't wait to go again!

Worth the wait that is present especially on weekends! Great coffee, some of the best I have had . Deserts are wonderful. Place is warm away from the Scottish cold and moisture. Very clean place. Please wait for them to seat you and enjoy the cafe that gave birth to Harry Potter

If you love Harry Potter, definitely a cafe to visit! The back room is cozy with a view of part of the castle. It's just cool knowing she wrote those books there. The Harry Potter graffiti on the walls is super cool to see as a fan. Food is pretty good! Had a nice scone and cafe latte on a rainy day, and it was lovely. Long line to get in though now, unfortunately.

The ambiance and food is amazing! I was only in Edinburgh for a week but went almost everyday. Not only was it so incredible to witness the location the first "Harry Potter" novel was written, the Elephant House was able to cater to my allergies. Full Scottish breakfast was glorious and gluten free lemon poppy-seed cake was to die for!

A fun place to visit if you love Harry Potter. This inside is a fun elephant themed cafe with great views of Edinburgh castle. However the scone was pretty dry and the hot chocolate was luke warm. I would recommend peeking in but other cafes near by have better food.

Food good. View good. Service lacking, the girl bussing tables on her first day gave us more attention than the waiters. Stand up and wave when you need something, and make sure to get a pitcher of water or you will suffer

When I came to the Elephant House for the first time 4 years ago, it was such a lovely, quirky place that I wanted to spend all day in. Now, it has become so commercialised. I just brought my visiting friend here and felt the whole time that I has lined up for a cheesy tourist stop rather than a fantastic checkpoint in Edinburgh's unique history. I felt the whole time that the staff couldn't wait for us to leave so that they could turn the table to more customers. I was sad to see that this restaurant had lost a bit of its heart. If you don't mind suffering through the bustle and herding, I would definitely check out the bathrooms!
