Beautiful location
Very well appointed rooms
Spotlessly clean
It serves Samuel Smith's organic lager. Champagne in a pint tumbler. I always visit when I am in town for a pint or two.
and as you have noted not all rooms are affected from this, if you stay again we would be happy to ensure you are allocated a room at the rear of the hotel.
Very nice hotel and the staff were all amazing. The only issue is that the windows are very thin and there were heavy lorries (logging trucks) running up and down the street all hours of the night. There are rooms on the back side of the hotel where my father had a room and those are very quiet. The restaurant in the hotel is exceptional and beyond my expectations for a country hotel. I would have given this 5 stars except for the noise, as it didn't seem to matter if the windows were open or closed. Possibly an extra layer of window on the inside might have helped as we have seen done in some of the other historical places we have visited. Also maybe the Heavy Lorries was temporary but I would recommend you call when booking if you are a light sleeper as we were.
Went to the Eskdale for a small wedding lunch (there were only four of us). They stayed open to accommodate us and the staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Lunch was delicious. I would highly recommend.
