Morning All, the splashzone is closed today. You can still get out on the water in the bumper boats or zorbs though - they're running on the main basin. If you fancy a more sedate way to cool down, ice cream from The Milk Barn comes highly recommended!
Have you spotted our resident swan family at The Falkirk Wheel? We'd love to see your pics of our feathered friends for #WildlifeWednesday!
Folks, our splash zone and pedal boats are closed today - we'll let you know as soon as they're running again. Folks, our splash zone water play area is currently closed - we'll let you know as soon as it's open again. In the meantime, your wee ones (or not so wee!) can still discover our mini canal, get out on the water in a bumper boat or water walker, or use up bouncing beans in the Bungydome!
A blueprint for a revolution - we love this original plan for the world's only rotating boat lift from the Scottish Canals archive!
If you love it as much as us, you'll find it gracing everything from mugs to t-shirts in our gift shop! 😉
What an amazing place we were very impressed with the whole experience.
We did find the cafe/ Restaurant a bit dangerous if you sit near the window due to the slope on the roof and steel girders if your sitting near the window to get the best view of the wheel standing up you crack your head on steel yes there is a sticker saying mind your head BUT it's the same colour as the steel I eldely lady gave herself quit a knock.
Went on a very rainy day but still lots to see out side. Lunch in cafe was great. Did not need to go on the wheel as we had been before so knew what to expect. A very cheep day out. £3 to park your car was fine as it goes to help maintain the canals. Did not mind at all
Totally love it and amazing thing to see up close would like to be there again soon.
This is one of our favourite places to visit when we come up here. There’s lots of areas to walk and relax and lots of water play areas for families with children. We’ve seen it develop over the years and it gets better every time.
The work that Scottish Canals are doing is amazing. The money they raise goes straight back into maintaining and improving the canals. Brilliant. Well done Scotland
The wheel itself is a sight to behold and was really impressed by the welcome and friendly nature of the staff. What a lovely experience.
Spent my first visit to The Falkirk Wheel yesterday with my two daughters. We thoroughly enjoyed the day, despite the rain. All of the staff at the Visitor Centre, Boat Trip and Cafe were very helpful and made the day even better. Cafe at the Visitor Centre is superb with a wide range of wonderful food and drinks. We’ll be back again.
Marie comes down to the tamfourhill community Hall and cooks with the over 55s group and with families. This supports good links with the wheel and the local community.
Lovely day out despite the weather! Informative humorous staff with a wealth of knowledge!
We had tea & coffee with scones which were delightful and the hot food looked great too!
Would certainly recommend it! If the weather had been better we’d have spent the whole
Day there exploring the walk
Next time for sure!
I’m a photography student and spent today shadowing the staff at the wheel, which was organised by Elaine. I have to say it was a great experience and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The staff were so accommodating and helpful and I can’t thank them enough. If you haven’t already been it’s well worth a visit and I’m sure you’ll be made as welcome as I was. Thanks again everyone. Planning to return as a visitor so will see you all again soon. Gillianx
Fantastic! We really enjoyed our time here and we could of sat and watched it all day long! Awesome.
Enjoyed our visit to the Falkirk Wheel it was our rest stop after cycling from the Kelpies. The restaurant has a great range from sandwiches to beautiful meals as well as a large selection of cakes and tray bakes. I especially liked they had flavour teas and decaf coffee.
Plenty if seating inside and out. Well sourced gift shop although a little expensive.
Outside there are great views of the wheel it was really interesting watching it in action.
Highly recommend
Amazing engineering and something you can only experience here. The value is great and all proceeds go back into the Scottish Canals. Must see if you like engineering or just really cool things!
A very impressive piece of machinery and was very pleased that when I visited I actually got to see it in action. Was amazed how it worked and with such precision
A unique and amazing piece of engineering. Now an iconic sight in modern Scotland. The wheel is used to link two canals which are at different heights. You can go on a boat in the lower basin and in 4.5 minutes you will be transported up very gently to the upper basin. You then do a short trip on the upper canal before returning to the wheel and the lower basin. Amazing views - 60 km on a clear day. Well worth a visit- there is nothing else like it in the world.
We walked from the Kelpies to the wheel. What a fabulous sight to see and the view from the top was amazing.Lucky it was a lovely sunny day.Travelled from Sheffield was on my tick list.Would recommend the visit.Go See people.
Was interesting and food on the premises was good. Biscuit bars at the till £1 60 is expensive . I did thing the boat ride was going to be a bit longer not just along that waterway and turn back, magnificent piece of engineering though.
Visited yesterday and had a really good day with only one downside - I took my 2 year old grandson into the ladies to change his nappy, the changing table is very public and is actually about 6 inches from one of the toilet doors, one poor lady had to squeeze past us to get out.
Couldn't give it 5 stars as it wisnae workin' (stopped for maintenance for the whole of November - each year apparently), but you can still wander all round it, cafe's open, you can go round to the back and chat to folk pottering on narrow boats on the canal, so still well worth the visit on a nice cold November morning. Parking was free as well - since the Wheel wasn't working.
