About The Glasgow Climbing Centre

**Closed for the duration of the Coronavirus situation**.
The Glasgow Climbing Centre is Glasgow's premier indoor climbing facility. Lead, Top Rope, Boulder and Autobelays, and a fab cafe!

The Glasgow Climbing Centre Description

Whether you are a regular climber looking for a training facility, or someone who has never tried climbing before, the Glasgow Climbing Centre has something for everyone. Climbing is a great workout (often with out realising it) and has a fantastic social scene too.

Situated inside an old church, we have made full use of the space, with over 60 Lead routes up to 14 metres, Over 100 Bottom Roped routes, and Over 100 Boulder Problems in 3 areas including Campus and fingerboards, and a Beastmaker systems board. We pride ourselves on the quality of our routes, and reset 4 days a week to ensure there is always something fresh for you to climb.

Our fabulous café offers great locally roasted coffee and a range of snacks and meals. This year we are rated in The List review as one of the best cafés in town. There is also free wifi.

Another amazing performance from all our young GCC squad climbers today at round 2 of the YCS in Perth College Climbing Centre.
4 podium places for this round and 7 going through to the final for the Scotland team selection event in March. 💪💪💪
Well done to all the competitors today and of course everyone that make these comps a success!

You'll notice we've updated all our lower-off at the top of all out lead panels.
No difference for a lead climber at the top, just clip either of the snap-gates and lower off as usual.
If you're setting up the panel to be top-roped make sure you clip both of the snap-gates before you are lowered.

📣📣 BIG NEWS 📣📣
The Glasgow Climbing Centre is proud to announce that we will now be hosting a monthly ‘Ladies Lock-In’, which will take place on a Saturday night after normal opening hours.
📅 The first event will take place on Saturday the 22nd of February, from 6pm - 9pm 📅... https://www.facebook.com/events/480012682 911866/
Here’s a word from organisers Rachael and Eilidh 👇
''GCC Ladies Night will be an informal after-hours session for women to try climbing for the first time, hone their skills, or work on their projects. A team of all-female instructors will be on hand for everything from teaching the basics to improving climbing technique. All ages and levels of experience are welcome! "
We hope these nights will be fun, sociable and empowering. We aim to create a positive atmosphere and sense of community that will help women feel comfortable in challenging themselves.
This evening is set up in partnership with energise-her, a Glasgow Sport initiative set up to tackle the imbalance in participation rates of males and females in sport and physical activities. We aim to empower those who identify as women by creating a space for them to learn and have fun, and to by helping them overcome some of the barriers to getting involved in climbing and physical activity more generally.''
Hope to see you some of you there!! 🥳🧗‍♀️💪

We're going to be resetting the big-wall next week and we've had a lot of requests for a larger range of grades to be set rather than multiples of the same grade.
With the left wall now having no grades harder than 7a and the new wall with plenty of 6's, our plan is to step up the grades on this Big-wall.
We plan to set one of each grade from 5+ to 8a. Do you like this plan??
... Yes. You would like a spread of grades so that you have something at every grade to work on. The big-wall needs harder stuff!
No. You prefer the wall with multiple climbs of lower grades. I wouldn't be interested in the harder stuff.

Awesome effort from all of our Performance Squad yesterday at the first round of the ClimbScotland YCS at Avertical World . They bagged 4 podium places spread across the age categories and plenty of other great results.
Congratulations all of you, we're looking forward to following your progress through the coming comp season.

We have been using Consensus grading here for a while now, where climbers are encouraged to write down their grade suggestion for a route, all suggestions are collated, and the average taken. Do you think this is something we should continue doing?
Yes. Grades can go astray if there isn't an easy way to feedback anomalies.
No. I don't think it makes a difference. Just put a single grade up. We will let staff know if we feel the route isnt graded correctly.
... We would appreciate your thoughts on this. Cheers. Rob Gcc Watts (Centre Manager)
