CPD Foot Mobilisations course coming to The Hygge Clinic in June 2020. Great chance to get some CPD in locally if you are one of the following:
Podiatrists, Private and NHS practitioners Physiotherapists Osteopaths... Chiropractors Orthotists Prosthetists Sports Therapists
This 2 day practical training course offers a variety of mobilisation techniques for all joints of the foot, taking into account current thinking on foot function and how this impacts on our assessment of the joints concerned.
Training carried out by Ian Linane who is a great teacher, I have been to 2 of his courses before and they changed the way I practice. A GREAT tool to add to your kit. More info available here... https://infigoeducation.co.uk/courses/foo t/
Please PM me if you're interested.

Well it's been yet another busy week at Orkney Podiatry with another 14 new patients coming in to see us.
This week we do have more availability. Ruth has availability on: Monday morning (several spaces) and 1630 (30 minutes)... Tuesday afternoon from 1500-1700 Tuesday evening from 1900-2000 Friday morning 0900 (30 minutes) and between 1100-1200 Friday afternoon after 1415
So there is good availability for Routine Appointments, Medi-Pedis, Steel Toes and of course 'First Appointments' for new patients.
There is less availability the following week so if you want an appointment this week is a great chance to get in. Send a PM on here if you want to get booked.
It's looking like indoor weather for the rest of the weekend so make the most of it folks.

Why choose a Podiatrist over other foot care professionals for your foot care?
Podiatrists are the ONLY foot care professionals who are qualified to degree level (3-4 years) and have to have completed 1000 hours of supervised clinical work before we can graduate. We have in depth understanding of the body, any relevant illnesses and the mechanics of your feet and lower limbs. We are governed by the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC) and Ruth and myself are also memb...ers of the College of Podiatry meaning we adhere to their very high standards of practice and are fully insured. We are not insured by our training bodies, only by independent insurers. We are not regulated by our training bodies, only independent regulators.
Even a basic nail cut is never as simple as a basic nail cut. We're always checking your feet, looking for signs of issues so we can treat them before they become a major problem. We can asses your vascular status and how well the nerves are working in your feet. We can communicate with other health care professionals so you can get all the support you need.
Yes there are other foot care professions out there and yes they may be a few pounds cheaper. But... how much do you value your feet and who do you trust the most to treat them? The choice is yours.

Yesterday was "Time to Talk" day. The day encourages conversation around mental health to help to destigmatise the issues around mental health, bust myths and break down barriers to help to end exclusion, isolation and feelings of shame or worthlessness which people may be experiencing in connection to their mental health problems. I missed the boat with this post yesterday but better late than never!
We'd love to think that having mental health services within the Hygge Cli...nic are helping people who are struggling with their mental health in Orkney. We believe mental health is just as important as physical health. We're not just our bodies, we're so much more!! And we need to make sure ALL of our being is in good shape.
The Hygge Clinic has no reception service onsite so you don't need to announce who you are or why you are at the clinic. We are off the street so no-one needs to see you coming in or leaving PLUS even if they did, no-one know's why you're here (feet? massage? nails?). It's private. It's safe. We genuinely care. Our cosy counselling room is shown in the video below and we're happy to answer ANY questions you have about the clinic before you visit and we can forward any enquiries on to our counsellors.

This isn't exacting but gives a good idea of healing times for the various tissues in the body. As anyone who's had an ankle sprain will tell you, ligament sprains are NOT fun and can take time and patience to move past.
We can help you with a personalised exercise programme based on what we find during your assessments and our super duper class 4 laser is fabulous for reducing inflammation and speeding up your body's healing process. We can also help with soft tissue massa...ge and joint mobilisations or manipulations (Kirsten), podiatric acupuncture (Ruth) and more, all based on what is deemed to be the most appropriate and helpful course of treatment for YOU. Why struggle when you don't have to?
Just click 'Book Now' and choose 'First Appointment' and we'll get you back to doing the things you love in the quickest time possible.

It's a lovely calm winter morning today and it's been a very busy week for Orkney Podiatry.
This last week in the clinic must be a record as we have had 17 new patients through the door! Ruth has this week received some excellent feedback from a patient who has had laser treatment on a niggling achilles injury which is great to hear. Here is a link to the website if you are curious about what High Level Laser Therapy is and what it can help:... https://www.thehyggeclinic.com/laser-ther apy
We have some availability for podiatry appointments this next week on Friday 31st with Ruth. There are spaces in the morning and afternoon.
Enjoy your weekend.

It's been a while! After a change in pricing structure 2 years ago we've avoided increasing our prices BUT it's that time again when it has to happen due to our own rising costs.
We'll be restructuring our treatment prices very soon. These will be in place from 1st March.
... Thank you for your continued support! It's allowed us to invest in some of the best equipment, training and treatment options available ensuring consistently high standards and great treatment outcomes whilst creating what we believe is an incredible clinic for you to visit. Onwards and upwards!

Happy Tuesday folks!
Due to the adjustments in my working hours, with Tuesdays now becoming a full day of home visits and a very full diary, I'm currently not taking on any new home visit clients as I try and get myself and my current patients settled into a new routine. Once this is sorted I may be able to open my diary for new home visit appointments.
We do however have CLINIC spaces available from as soon as next week.

Introducing our first new treatment for 2020 - Steel Toes!
This is aimed at tradesmen / fishermen / farmers or indeed people from any industry who spend long hours wearing steel toe caps or welly boots at work.
Steel Toes combines a podiatry treatment (nails and hard skin sorted), a salt scrub and a peppermint moisturiser to leave those hard working feet feeling fresh.... Or alternatively think about it as a trim up, sanding and oiling! πŸ˜‚πŸ”¨

Delighted to see our wee winter pansies are clinging on even after some nasty frost and serious wind! Our little outside nook is a lovely sheltered hygge spot!

Kardia... This is a potential life saver. Patients who are flagged with possible atrial fibrillation are given a letter, emailed a copy of their reading and sent straight to their GP for further investigation. It's ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry!! Kardia checks are offered during new patient appointments, annual reviews or you can just ask if you'd like us to do this quick, simple and totally painless check for FREE as part of your routine treatment. ❀️

A 30 minute space has just become available with Ruth this evening at 6:30pm. This is perfect for anyone who has seen us within the past year and would like a routine podiatry treatment (skin/nails etc).
