The Institute For Historical Arts Description

The Institute for Historical Arts is a Dundee based historical European martial arts school (HEMA) that is focused on working with the local community to give a well structured activity to Dundee and the surrounding area.

We study mainly Historical Longsword but also occasionally teach lessons on Scottish Broadsword, Broadsword and Buckler, Sabre, Dussack and Victorian-Bartitsu. We hope to provide even more lessons on various historical weapons systems based on interest.

Recognized on the international competition circuit and regularly sending our more advanced members to compete in Europe. We also regularly host seminars from internationally renowned competitors and instructors, such as Axel Pettersson (Gothenburg Historical Fencing School), Carl Ryrberg (Örebro HEMA) , Ties Kool (HVN - Historisch Vrijvechten Nederland) and Keith Farrell (Academy of Historical Arts).

We host beginner's lessons every Friday with more advanced classes and sparring on a Monday.
