Sunday 5th £6/£5 The Jazz Bar’s own ‘World Premiere’ Quintet Every Saturday at The Jazz Bar, a different hand-picked selection of five excellent jazz players meets on stage for the first time (hence the name) – and plays with no rehearsal, and not even a set list! It’s always a ‘surprise’ line-up – even for the players. We’re bringing the ‘WPQ’ to the Fringe Festival for the first time (and for one night only!) to showcase some of our incredible local jazz musicians and give you a taste of what our busy programme sounds like year-round. Featuring Ed Kelly (double bass), Phil Cardwell (trumpet), Kevin Barrett (guitar), Rich Harrold (keys), and Greg Irons (drums).

JAZZ BAR EXCLUSIVE
World renowned trumpeter and legend of jazz, Valery Ponomarev graces our stage with his outstanding quintet. Valery dramatically escaped USSR in the 70's (inspiring both a book and feature-length documentary) and toured with Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers for four years, producing eleven albums! Here he recreates the music of The Messengers alongside award winning local musicians Konrad Wisniewski (saxophone), Paul Kirby (piano), Ed Kelly (bass), and Manuel Weyland (drums).

You have left an amazing legacy Bill and it will live on in all our memories and in the continuing success of the Jazz Bar. Love, Peace and Happiness to your loved ones old friend <3

User

Very good spot for listening to excellent music, good beer selection and nice place to dance to the sound of funk!

User

Very friendly staff, we had a great time and ended up going there everynight during our vacation 😍

User

These are the number of stars that were/are spinning round my head after last night in Jazz bar. I remember dancing and really good pinacoladas. Hic !

User

The improvised music was incredible. Highly recommend, for seasoned jazz fans and new listeners to the genre.

The Dave O’Higgins Quartet has been together for 5 years now with Sebastiaan de Krom (drums), Geoff Gascoyne (bass) and Rob Barron (piano).

Playing was of the highest quality and I've never seen a drum solo that silenced the whole club!

As I haven't visited for a while I was immediately struck by the quality of the sound, gone was the muddy muffled vocal, the piano was crystal clear and everything was so precise and accurate. You've got a new PA I concluded! A fact confirmed by the sound engineer wandering round with a sound desk on a tablet. What an advance. Truly world class. Looking forward to my next visit.

User

It is exactly what it says it is- a bar for Jazz. Musicians know it and love it so they go there as well as play there. The worst thing you could say about it is that it's a strange shape- but that might be part of its charm as well.

User

I love the Jazz Bar because my son has played there many times (although I have been there when he's not!). Yesterday was subdued but the staff continued their friendliness and professionalism despite this week's sad events. After the end of a "World Premiere Quartet/ Quintet", Bill would always remind us who had been playing and would end with,"I'm Bill Kyle" in such an unassuming manner. I could still hear him say that last night. God rest you, Bill.

User

I Jazz called. And I love you! The hub and melting pot of Edinburgh's various music scenes. Scary how many of my best friends and colleagues I've met in there. RIP Bill and thank you!

User

Great place for live music, dancing & brilliant jam sessions. A wee gem to be found in the centre of town.

User

Came across this venue by chance and wow, a live music gem, great atmosphere and friendly people, Edinburghs little secret

User

Awesome place, the 17 piece Jazz band was simply fantastic and finished off our long weekend perfectly.

The staff were helpful and smiley and the venue is exactly what you want from an old school Jazz bar, and we've been to a lot.

We'll certainly be going back on our next visit to Edinburgh.

Thank you all very much.

User

Amazing place, great energy, and lovely people. Miss this place.

User

Amazing place in Edinburgh! I love it!

User

A truly unique and wonderful space in which all forms of musical creativity are supported. At its heart, it is the most diverse and encouraging venue, a place for musicians and music lovers alike to come together and be inspired.

User

A fantastic place for musicians to apply their craft and meet other local performers. A hub for musicians and music lovers to come together and express a shared enjoyment of all things that live performances can bring. Highly recommended and a vital part of Edinburgh's music scene.

User

Very dissapointed tonight I feel the jazz bar was racist against my friend.

I came here tonight to have one drink ..being a local artist of Edinburgh I was not aloud entry due to being deemed rude ?

I feel due to being with friends from Turkey who run business here.I was not allowed entry and insulted by staff at the door.

I am a very respected person in Edinburgh and a vibrant light in all social scenes

I was told if I entered I would be annoying?

A very disgusting attitude from doorman and totally dissapointing.

User

It had a nice vibe and the bit of the set -- we arrived late, was really good. I'd like to come again next time I'm in Edinburgh

User

Fantastic little place, great underground feel with some exceptional talent and great selection of drink. However, needs some sort of dress code or something for a jazz club. Kills the vibe a little when you come for a night out and theres loads of backpacks, shorts and sweaty vests everywhere.
