The Living Room Acoustic Night Description

The Living Room is an acoustic night organised by Hope Street Music (HSM).

It started in Cambridge in 2004 and has been described in the music press as “…the premier acoustic night in Cambridge”. Bands and singer /songwriters are invited to perform their work in stripped-down acoustic format. This gives the audience a chance to hear artists perform their songs in a way perhaps not usually heard, although for many it is how the songs were originally written…perhaps even in their own living room!

There is a relaxed atmosphere at each night and the audience sit on rugs and cushions strewn around the floor, although seats are available if needed. The room is lit only by muted stage lighting and candles to create an atmosphere conducive to listening to good music.
The Living Room has a homely, chilled-out atmosphere and is very laid-back but the quality of the evening is second to none. It’s also perhaps unique in that the audience remain silent while artists perform, other than applauding at the end of each song of course.
It has a reputation as a must-play night and as a result we get hundreds of requests from artists, both from the UK and abroad, to play thus ensuring we only select and book quality artists.

The Living Room has now featured at a number of music festivals, for example Hope Street Music booked and ran The Living Room stage at Secret Garden Party (SGP) for 12 years until SGP’s demise in 2017. Currently HSM co-programs and runs The Den stage (for emerging talent) at Cambridge Folk Festival.

This is it. The end. No more open mic, closed mic, lost mic, or not-plugged-in-mic for another year.
We’ve all had bundles of fun helping make the Cambridge Folk Festival the tantalisingly hot bed of sweet music over the last few days (is it only days?!) and are already planning on how we can make next year even better.
Till then, take care, and keep on playing/singing/listening, but never clapping on 1 and 3.

CJ, the final performer of the whole festival 2018. Another fabulous performance from her - if you missed out you really missed out.
Thanks to everyone who played this evening and over the many sets we’ve done this weekend at both The Den and Coldham’s Common. See you next year !!

Back at the Common, Davy Cherry jumped in to cover last minute with more originals (like how he’s twinned his home city of Belfast with Liverpool) and a few surprising covers.

Preceded by Phil with a poem from inside the Battle of Hastings, Scott & Nick then got the Coldham’s Common stage warmed up with a bit of Queen and other favourites.
