Won overnight stay bed and breakfast with dinner also on Facebook! We used this on Saturday and have to say was a well needed relaxing break! Food was beautiful even though we didn't order dessert only reason we were so full!! Spa was lovely room was beautiful although it was very noisy through the night probably just a few merry people my only issue was the bed it was like sleeping on the springs of the mattress but that didn't bother me too much as the staff and overall experience of here was great! Would definitely come back and recommend thank you!!

My two girlfriends arranged a spa day for my 50th birthday at the hotel.

The day started with a round of lattes while sitting in the Arran Lounge looking out at the stunning sea views beyond the golf course. To be honest, I could have spent the full day in that seat with that view.

Having abandoned my seat, we went for lunch which was absolutely delicious with a surprise ‘Happy Birthday’ chorus for the exceptionally attentive staff.

From there we relocated to relax in the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room with our complimentary towelling robes and slippers. Temperature of the pool was just lovely.

Then on to our 2 treatments from the very experienced and professional ladies in the treatment room. All three of us agreed that the treatments we received were the best ever (and we’ve experienced a good few over the years!).

We did not stay overnight so cannot comment on the rooms/beds or breakfast service, but I would thoroughly recommend a spa day at this hotel to everyone.

Thank you - Best day ever!

My husband and I had a 1 night stay here. The view from our room was great. Staff very friendly. Food was good and I was delighted with the Gluten Free menu which is something I always struggle with when going out. Would recommend and would definitely go back.

User

This venue must be upgraded to attract the clientele that they deserve. Perfect setting for visitors who golf or not. I found the bar staff to be overwhelmed and restaurant staff sufficiently staffed. The food was good and pool was welcome for sore bones. The beds and pillows were not comfortable for many in our party but nobody complained.

I would recommend this hotel to friends given the location, amenities and pool.

PS...I would like to see an upgrade of the front entrance to allow hotel guests easier access. Golf clubs through a narrow turn style and doors that swing out rather than in were a challenge.

User

Went for afternoon tea, which was okay. Sandwiches had lovely fillings although not enough. The room which we were in was nice and bright with beautiful views unfortunately everything else was not so good. Drilling and banging was ongoing throughout our afternoon tea which was annoying. Seating was poor. Ripped seats and furniture was very tired. Cutlery needed to be shined or thrown out. Went in to the bar area thereafter where we sat on threadbare seats and sofas. Carpets were also grubby. This place needs a large cash injection before they can call themselves 4 star. The hotel is a beautiful building in an ideal location but oh dear won't hurry back.

User

Still our favourite hotel but long waits in between courses in the restaurant at night. Also at breakfast time food in the heated trays were cold plus a temperamental toaster.

Also informed hotel i was celiac. Cream Tea was a problem no alternatives were being offered until i pointed out a meringue could be subsituted. This was done with a bit of a grumble. Also for the other members of our party tea came first then 40 minutes later along came the scones.

Second night GF desserts were limited to sorbet or fruit salad brownies had not bern delivered. Disappointed desserts not made in house.

User

Room was very nice and had a great view over the golf course. Dinner was very disappointing-was over cooked (even after being sent back!) and service very very slow. I had asked in advance for my partners birthday to be acknowledged at dinner but this also didn’t happen. Found a couple of the bar staff quite rude and not sure I would recommend to others anymore which is a shame as beautiful setting!

User

Quite disappointed in Marine Highland today.

Bought a voucher for afternoon tea for my mum and mother in law's Christmas gift.

They were excited to go along to such a nice hotel expecting something exceptional.

On arrival 5 mins before their booking the staff member couldn't find the name after looking for few minutes. My mum pointed it out to her reading upside down. They were then told "oh you will need to wait til we sort a table"

They were then taken to a room where glasses were removed from table that was set for dinner. Everyone else was sitting in the conservatory.

They were then told there were things kitchen did not have so they couldn't get them.

When asked for coffee it was "normal coffee only, no specialities"

Staff were not overly pleasant and being positioned away from other diners put a dampner on this experience.

Very disappointing in such an exceptional hotel.

Just back from what should have a fantastic break from what is meant to be a 4 star hotel. We had upgraded to a delux room and on reading the website you are promised a view of the golf course and sea, and yes we had a view of both but through square windows with views of the roof more prominent wasn’t exactly the view I was expecting. The room we stayed in had a WC in what was a cold cupboard but with no sink and having to cross the room to the bathroom where the bath shower and sink were, not exactly hygienic or practical. The corridor to the room (302) is freezing and it’s like running the gauntlet to try and get in the heat of the room serious upgrade is needed.

The next morning we had no water and informed reception and were told it would be fixed but having just lathered up not ideal and had to use the bottled water to take off the soap. After breakfast it was still not fixed properly so again informed reception only to be told that we can use the facilities in the spa area, I did not pay for an upgrade to have to use the toilet and shower in another part of the hotel. In the end the water did come back on but this happened again this morning at exactly the same time and instead of staying in the hotel til 12 (we had late check out) we left straight after breakfast. Once for this to happen is unfortunate but twice is just unacceptable. You did very kindly refund the money for the upgrade.

With regards to the restaurant, Saturday nights service was atrocious. Now I know you were extremely busy but this does excuse the fact that when we were showed to our table we’re we were not asked if we wanted a drink while reading over the menu, we were asked on Friday, and then spent a good 15-20mins waiting for someone to come and take our order. When pondering whether we were going to have dessert the girl said she would come back with menus, she never did so had to go and ask for this ourselves! On the menu it states a 20% gratuity on the bill now I have no objection to this but service must be reasonable to receive this and this was not the case.

Despite this we did have a lovely relaxing time and would love to come back but these small things do need to be looked at!

User

I had previously given this hotel a 5 star rating in 2012. Not stayed in Marine for a few years. I stayed in hotel yesterday with my wife for our anniversary in 2018. We got married in this hotel in 2012. To see how the hotel has gone down hill is very sad. Hotel is tired in all areas and needs upgraded badly. The staff are great and they deserve better. Great location for a hotel that should be doing so much better. The owners need to get their finger out as will loose clientele who have visited over the years.

User

I booked itison deal for £135 to celebrate my mums birtgday says kids stat free which they dont as have to upgrade room for £40.00 it would be more transparent in terms of offer if children were charged at a supplement. The hotel is tired and in need of decorating as carpets worn etc, i also asked on arrival if there was a ramp or only stairs girl on reception advised only stairs, later to find out ourselves that the ramp was adjacent. The staff in bar and restaurant great going the extra mile to make birthday special. Spa fully booked on a monday and tuesday? Dissapointed also with breakfast choice only bacon sausage scrambled egg we went at 9am and run down no yoghurt fresh fruit etc and on until 10am and was only blood heat if this wasnt included in the price i would not have been paying for it as morrisons offer better breakfast. Overall we were lucky have view on golf course which is a great redeeming feature for the hotel but will not be rushing back anytime soon. Shame.

User

Hotel is great in the main but myself and the rest of the Water Babies class attendees are furious about the change to the viewing area. This change means parents of young children no longer can watch their children swim because of a few unhappy residents complaints. This will cost the business massively in business. I would regularly spend £20 plus on lunch after attending, plus grandparents and mum would spend money on coffee while watching. I know I'm not alone in no longer using the restaurant while attending until the Marine decides to change policy. Think again!

User

Been before and was good but the spa is so dated and the ceiling I was staring at while getting my feet done was all stained so puts you off, Defo needs refurbished. Girl doing my treatments was really lovely and I felt very relaxed but 4 star in reality isn’t all it adds up to be. Use to be a £20 charge if you had a voucher and booked the weekend but they have changed it to £20 per person so really your not getting a deal as it is ... overall was ok.

User

Was given vouchers for there last Gin cocktail , Afternoon tea and Spa . The Spa treatments were good but pool area needing some up grading . As for the afternoon tea was poor had to ask if there was anything different cakes as the cake stand had two plates of the same cakes , sandwiches were even poorer i think the pickle ran through the sandwich. As for the cocktail was tasteless. some where getting them in goblets we got ours in a small spirit glass on speaking to others and seeing there afternoon tea on the same deal there was big differences . Don't think i will rush back on this deal plus it wasn't worth the extra money for a Saturday . 🙁🙁🙁

User

This was our 2nd stay in this hotel after the first experience which was terrible we thought we would give it a second chance. Wish we didn’t bother!

The staff in the hotel are all very pleasant and the food we received was ok at lunch and lovely at evening meal.

We arrived early and could not be checked in which was absolutely fine as we knew we could use the spa facilities. So that’s what we done however the lockers only accepted old pound coins so we could not safely lock up our valuables or clothes. The spas response was that they didn’t have any old ones left as it was busy but I could take my hand bag pool side with me. Not really ideal seeing as your expected to shower before entering ( a tad difficult with a bag) plus I couldn’t exactly take it in to the steam room or sauna so not great. Luckily a very kind man who is a member of the health club gave my husband his coin.

So in to the spa we went to relax..... nope there was 2 hours of baby/toddler swimming lessons. This annoyed many of the spa guests.

The room was ok great views but overall tired and dated. Not what you expect from a 4* hotel. We had a nice dinner and went to the bar for a few drinks, we left after just 2 as the cocktails I ordered were both sub standard. Got back to our room only to find it super noisy with the sound of music and people as it was situated directly above the bar, sadly this went on until the early hours of the morning, then started again at 08.30am. When we told the reception staff she said oh yes there were many guests up drinking in to the small hours.

The house keeping staff were then knocking on our door at 09.30 which I thought was off seeing as we were leaving that day and did not have to check out until later.

Breakfast selection was very small and not of high quality.

So what was meant to be a lovely relaxing birthday weekend turned out to be anything but. I know now not to give the hotel a 3 time lucky try.

User

This hotel is old and tired and survives because of the location. If it wasn’t situated on the 18th fairway at Royal Troon then it wouldn’t have any redeeming features.

The room was nice enough , but cold. The bar didn’t have enough tables so we had to stand until one became available. The lower part of the restaurant had a wooden floor which was sticky, wet and hasn’t been varnished for many years. I may be old fashioned, but table cloths wouldn’t go amiss in what is supposed to be a 4 star establishment. Food was okay but service which was carried out by kids, was very slow.

Breakfast was awful. Limited choice from a buffet except for eggs which were cooked but took forever. The coffee facility was a joke. !!

Disappointing and not a patch on Turnberry. Certainly wouldn’t ever go back here. Living off location and past reputation.

User

I bought an itison voucher for afternoon tea for my mums mothers day which she booked for today for herself and her friend. They were seated with a lovely view but unfortunately that’s all that was lovely one of the sandwich never even had a top on it (the waitress sorted this out after complaining)with very sparce filling and the scones were very hard not fresh at all. Overall a very disappointing visit to the hotel and both my mum and her friend said they wouldn’t go back. I’m disappointed as I thought it would’ve been a lovely afternoon for them.

User

Good -

The Truin Restaurant - good food and service.

The staff are all friendly and welcoming

Nice location and free parking with outdoor seating in nice weather.

Has a Pool an leisure facility that is clean and functional

The hotel is clean and the staff seem to really care despite being a little tired.

Improvement -

The hotel is a little tired, especially the rooms.

The breakfast was pretty poor, bacon was more like beef jerky.

You get what you pay for. With some investment this could be a premium 4* Plus hotel.

Hopefully there is a refurbishment plan as currently I would not return.

User

Been to Marine many times but sadly stopped going due to lack of any signs of upgrading this wonderful old building, we now go to Peirsland (just back from 2 day stay)....however we popped round to Marine yesterday for a wee look to see if anything had been done, bought a half pint of soda water with a dash of lime and an appletise for the wife which cost £4.85 which I thought was rediculous...obviously in need of lots of cash for upgrading the hotel but they'll not be long in raising the money if their prices remain at this level, come on management get your prices in order!

It's great to see so many guests and golfers visiting Royal Troon Golf Club right on our doorstep. ⛳️
Why not come and join us for a round of golf this summer? 🏌️‍♀️
